The welcome address was delivered by Mr. C. P. Gupta, Chairman, CII Western U.P. Zonal Council and MD, Ambika Steel Ltd. He emphasized on Clean Technology, Smart Cities and Renewable Energy. He said that the targeted power requirement of the country is to the order of 175 GW. The effort is to obtain 100 GW from solar energy alone and rest from wind energy, bio-mass and others. Renewable energy is the flagship of Prime Minister’s “Make in India” program. It is ironic that out of 1200 MW solar power produced only 200 MW is being utilized and the rest is wasted. Rajasthan has brought down the cost of solar power to Rs.4.34 per unit in some sector.

Mr. Deepak Agarwal, CEO, Greater Noida Authority stated that solar energy is viable and extremely reliable. Huge waste land is available for installation of solar plants which can be taken on lease for 30 years by entrepreneurs. He invited interested players to pitch in for this novel scheme. The endeavor of Greater Noida Authority is to convert all street lights into LED lightings. Water is free for all and hence loses its importance. Water meters are going to be installed at all places in Greater Noida which shall be state of art technology and tinker proof.

He also spoke on solid waste management. There are numerous technologies available for conversion of waste into useful products namely bio - methylation, incineration etc.

Mr. Sudhanshu Gupta, Director, Power and Utilities, Ernst & Young, India explained the concept of clean technology across multiple sectors which is a transformation and holistic in nature. The key initiatives are climate change, water mission and renewable energy. India is targeting to produce 100 GW of solar energy by 2020 - 21 which shall comprise of 60 GW at ground level and 40 GW at roof top. 100 billion dollars of investment is earmarked for 100 GW of solar energy production.

Mr. Saurabh Kumar, MD, Energy Efficiency Services Ltd., Mr. K. B. Biswas, Chairman, Central Ground Water Board and Mr. Sachin Sharma, Director, Wave InfraTech Ltd. delivered address on various aspects of clean energy and disposal of waste.
