AICTE Sponsored Two Weeks Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on

"Best Practices in Software Quality Engineering and 21st Century Teaching Learning System"

18th February, 2013 to 2nd March, 2013

Akhilesh Dwivedi, Assistant Professor, Dept. of IT, was delegated to attended AICTE Sponsored Two Weeks Faculty Development Programme on "Best Practices in Software Quality Engineering and 21st Century Teaching Learning System" held at BharatiVidyapeeth's Institute of Computer Applications and Management (BVICAM) New Delhi during 18th February, 2013 to 2nd March 2013.

The FDP was attended by 67 participants from across 50 colleges all over the country. It was inaugurated on Monday, 18.02.2013 by Hon. Chief Guest Dr.Akhilesh Gupta Hon’ble Secretary, UGC, New Delhi. He shared few upcoming activities to be undertaken by UGC in next few years. He shared with the faculty members about the Doctorate programs and Revision of API for appraisal. He further added that UGC will provide special benefits to faculty members in various disciplines by funding the research projects to encourage quality research. He further shared his vision of taking UGC to the global standards with the help of its affiliated colleges/institutions which could be done through:

1. Development of Faculty

2. Development of Students
3. Quality Research and Resource Development


Prof. M. N. Hoda in his welcome speech highlighted the importance and objectives of organizing faculty development programs. He opined that if faculty wants to develop themselves and their students, then attending such faculty development programs would enhance their skills practically in 21st century. He briefed the participants about the subjects chosen for FDP and highlighted the reasons and importance of the Best Practices in Software Quality Engineering and 21st Century Teaching Learning System. He also discussed the difference between teaching case studies and teaching through case method.

Shanti Swaroop Bhatnagar Awardee, Prof. Karmeshu SCSS, JNU, New Delhi briefed about Relevance of Mathematical Models for Research in Computer Science. He spoke about essentials for inculcating mathematics which has enabled faculties to update their research and pedagogical skills to enhance the capabilityand to apply the mathematics in Computer Science with documentary proof of latest research papers in same area.

During 20.02.2013 to 22.02.2013, Mr. Rakesh Maheshwari Director, STQC, MC&IT, GoI, New Delhi explained Activity based Understanding S/W Quality Engineering Processes using CMM, IEEE Standards, CMMI ISO 9001:2008, ISO 90003, SPICE & Six Sigma, ISMS Standards, ISO 27001 Series of Standards. He explained all stated topics through active learning session in two scheduled days.

Mr. Amitesh Solanki, from TCS explained “Modern Learning and Pragmatic Pedagogies for Computer Science and Active and Interactive Learning: Formulation and Execution of Pedagogies for Computer Science, Curriculum Categorization as per Various Taxonomies of Human Learning and Development, Agricultural Model of Learning: Setting up the Environment and Controlling the Parameters”. Mr. Solanki concluded his session with a brief on “Evaluation, Assessment, Reporting and Judging the students”. Dr. V. K. Bashin from Delhi University spoke about “Time and Stress Management – A Three Dimensional Approach”. A very warm session on the topic “DNS and ARP Poisoning” was delivered by Dr. Maninder Singh Thapar University, Patiala.

On Monday, 25.02.2013, the program started with topic “Outcome Based Learning and Quality Assurance” by Prof. P. S. Grover, GTBIT which was followed by Case Study Based Teaching Learning Methodology by Prof. J. C. Kapur, IIPA. Later Dr. Karan Singh, GBU concluded the session with a discussion on the topics “Quality of Services (QoS) Issues for Network Protocol Design” and “Working with NS2 Simulator”.

Mrs. Neha Kapur Anand Corporate Trainer, Prof. A. K. Sharma YMCAUST, Faridabad, Prof. Hardeep Singh GNDU, Amritsar, Prof. ShibanKoul Dy. Director, IIT Delhi, respectively delivered talks on topics “Life Skills”, “OOT”, “Recent Trends in Software Engineering” and “How to Write Quality Papers Having Better Probability of Acceptance in IEEE and High Impact Journals?” respectively on Tuesday, 26/02/2013.

On Wednesday, 27/02/2013, Dr. Manoj K. Pandey Director, SRM University, Modinagar, Ghaziabad, spoke about “Software Quality and Testing”. Dr. D. K. Lobiyal SCSS, JNU, New Delhi, enlightened the session on “How to Write Research Synopsis?” and “Research Methodology in Computer Science”.

On Thursday, 28.02.2013 Dr. Dilip K. Sharma GLAU, Mathura (UP) started the FDP with the topic “Quality Aspects in Software Requirements Analysis and Design, followed by Dr. Rajesh Bhatia DCRUST, Murthal, on topic Software Quality and CMM, afterwards.

Prof. Khurram Mustafa DCS, JMI, New Delhi enlighten the session on “Grand Challenges in Computer Science Research” then Prof. M. N. Hoda Member, IEEE Execom, Delhi Section, Regional Students' Co-ordinator (R-I), Computer Society of India (CSI), Director Bharati Vidyapeeth's Institute of Computer Applications and Management (BVICAM) expressed his vision about “21st Century Teaching Learning System”.

On Friday (01.03.2013), Prof. Sanjiv Mittal USMS, GGSIP University, New Delhi spoke about “Entrepreneurship Development” and Prof. Dharmendra Kumar Dean, FET, GJU, Hisar delivered his enlightening speech on “Quality Teaching Learning System with Special reference to National Board of Accreditation”. Later Prof. Shampa Chakraverthy NSIT, New Delhi delivered quality lecture on “Rough Sets Based Information Systems”.

Dr. Deepali Kamthania (Coordinator-FDP) chaired the “Valedictory Session” which started with highly motivational speeches of Chief Guests Justice Talwant Singh Member (Judicial), E-Committee of Supreme Court of India, Dr. B. P. Joshi (Registrar-GGSIPU Delhi), Dr. Murali Mohan (Senior Scientist-DST), Mr. R. K. Vyas (RVP-R1, CSI) respectively.

The Faculty Development Programme concluded on 2nd March 2013 with distribution of certificates to the participants.
