Celebration of World Earth Day

The NSS Unit of DGI, Greater Noida, organized a programme on the occasion of World Earth Day on 22 April 2026 with the objective of promoting environmental awareness and encouraging sustainable practices among students and faculty members. The event was conducted in a well-organized manner and witnessed enthusiastic participation, reflecting the institute’s commitment to fostering social responsibility and environmental consciousness among young learners.
As a part of the celebration, a Poem Recitation Competition was conducted on the theme “The Cry of Mother Earth.” Students from various B.Tech branches participated with great interest and dedication. The activity provided a meaningful platform for students to express their thoughts and perspectives on pressing environmental challenges through creative expression. The participants presented insightful and impactful poems addressing critical issues such as climate change, pollution, deforestation, biodiversity loss, and the urgent need for sustainable development. The recitations reflected not only creativity and originality but also a deep sense of responsibility and concern towards environmental protection. The audience was engaged throughout the event, as the performances effectively conveyed strong messages about conservation and the role of individuals in safeguarding natural resources.
The competition was judged by Dr. Deepika Aggarwal, Associate Professor, Department of Applied Sciences, who evaluated the participants on parameters such as relevance to the theme, content quality, creativity, clarity of expression, and overall presentation. She appreciated the commendable efforts of all the participants and acknowledged the high standard of performances. She also encouraged the students to continue participating in such activities that combine creativity with social awareness and contribute to the larger cause of environmental sustainability.
Based on the overall performance, Riya Nagar from CSE (1st Year) secured the First Position, followed by Parth Maheshwari from CSIT (1st Year) who secured the Second Position, and Pallavi from CSIT (1st Year) who secured the Third Position. The winners were appreciated for their exceptional articulation, originality, and ability to effectively convey meaningful messages through their poems.
The programme was further graced by the presence of esteemed faculty members including Dr. Pawan Sharma (HOD, First Year), Dr. Lavi Deval, Prof. Sheela Singh, and Prof. Vikas Pal. They addressed the students and highlighted the importance of environmental conservation, emphasizing the need for adopting eco-friendly practices in daily life. Their motivating words encouraged students to become responsible citizens and active contributors towards environmental protection. The dignitaries also felicitated the winners and appreciated the efforts of all participants for their active involvement and thoughtful contributions.
The event not only enhanced awareness about environmental issues but also inspired students to reflect on their individual roles in preserving the planet. It served as an effective initiative in promoting a sense of responsibility, encouraging sustainable thinking, and strengthening the values of environmental stewardship among the participants.
