ASHRAE Undergraduate Program Equipment Grant Awarded for Split Air Conditioning Test Rig
5th March 2026
Mechanical Engineering Department of Dronacharya Group of Institutions has received the ASHRAE Undergraduate Program Equipment Grant for the project titled “Split Air Conditioning Test Rig.” This grant from ASHRAE (American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers) aims to support educational institutions in enhancing laboratory facilities and promoting practical learning in HVAC-related fields. The recognition highlights the institution’s commitment to strengthening technical education and encouraging innovation among undergraduate students.
Under this grant, ASHRAE has sanctioned $4,937 to develop and install the Split Air Conditioning Test Rig in the Mechanical Engineering laboratory. The experimental setup will enable students to study the working principles and performance of split air conditioning systems through real-time experimentation. It will allow measurement and analysis of parameters such as temperature, pressure, power consumption, and cooling capacity, helping students understand refrigeration cycles, thermodynamic processes, and energy efficiency in HVAC systems.
The project proposal was developed and submitted by a dedicated team of Mechanical Engineering students including Aman Mishra, Nitin Rathour, Rishi, Aayush Bhatt, Krishna Aggarwal, and Mohit Kumar. Their collaborative effort, technical knowledge, and innovative thinking played a crucial role in securing the grant. The project was successfully guided by Prof. Ankur Sachdeva, whose mentorship helped align the proposal with the technical standards and objectives of ASHRAE.
Receiving this grant marks an important achievement for the institution and will significantly enhance the practical learning environment for students. The Split Air Conditioning Test Rig will support laboratory experiments, research activities, and skill development in the area of refrigeration and air conditioning, ultimately helping students gain industry-relevant knowledge and hands-on experience in HVAC technologies.
