Summer School on STAAD Pro V8i
5th - 15th June 2018
Department of Civil Engineering, Dronacharya Group of Institution Greater Noida organized a Summer School on "STAAD Pro V8i" in association with DGI-ASCE Student Chapter during 5th -15th June 2018. The training was imparted by Asst.Professor Mr. Pravendra Yadav. The objective of the summer school was to expose the students to the world of Structure Analysis and Design.
Inaugurating the program, Hon'ble Director, Prof.(Dr.) Ashish Soti said that technology is changing the world in remarkable ways and people who have the skills, are in highest demand. He motivated the students to learn all such Technical and Analytics skills.

Introducing Staad Pro V8i software package to the participants, Mr. Yadav said that it is used for geometrical modeling, analysis and design of structures i.e concrete and steel structures.
On the 1st day students learned the basics of STAAD Pro, i.e., Creating New Files, STAAD Pro Screen, Opening and closing of existing STAAD Pro file and Saving command.
A lab Test was also conducted to evaluate the understanding of students from the first day's session.

Mr. Yadav started the second day's session with the introduction of different methods for geometrical modeling of simple and complex structures. In this session student learned the geometrical modeling of the simple structure i.e modeling of beam by different methods, creation of internal hinges and different types of supports for the beams.
June 07, 2018
On third day of summer school participants learned about the geometrical modeling of complex structures like as modeling of frame structure, different types of bridges and water tanks by using snap node method and structure wizard methods. Participants also learned property assignment, renumbering and grouping of members.
June 08, 2018
Session started with the discussion of codal provisions of Indian Standard IS: 1893-2002 for design of earthquake resistant structures. In this session participants studied about calculations of fundamental time period, base shear, modal mass and modal participation factors for different mode shapes.
June 11, 2018
On 11th June, participants were trained on basic concepts of different methods, i.e Static, Dynamic and Nonlinear Methods, for analysis of structures. Participants also learned different types of load assignment over the structures.
June 12, 2018
During this session participants learned the Static Analysis of the structures. They also performed static analysis on different types of structures and found critical loads in the members of the structure.
June 13, 2018
Session started with the lab test to evaluate the participants understanding from the previous classes. After the completion of Lab test, Mr. Yadav discussed the dynamic methods of analysis and considerations such as seismic, wind, hydrostatic etc. During this session participants performed Response Spectrum Analysis for different types of structures.
June 14, 2018
Participants were introduced to the Time History method of analysis. They also studied calculations of loads at different time intervals. The day ended with the Lab session.
June 15, 2018
The Stadd Pro Summer school concluded with the evaluation of assignments given to the students. During the Feedback Session, participants were of the view that the learning they had from the summer school will help them in understanding the Civil Engineering in a broader scope.
