Industrial Visit to “Mother Dairy”
31st May 2025
ASHRAE Student Chapter, Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida, organized an industrial visit for the students of Mechanical Engineering Department to Mother Dairy – Cold Storage, located at Patparganj, Delhi, on 31st May 2025. The visit was conducted under the supervision of Mr. Ankur Sachdeva (Assistant Professor, ME) as part of ASHRAE’s initiative to strengthen students’ practical understanding and provide real-world exposure to industrial refrigeration and air conditioning systems.
The visit offered students an excellent opportunity to explore the functioning of one of India’s most advanced and reputed dairy processing facilities. The team received a comprehensive guided tour of the plant, during which they observed key operational stages such as milk procurement, quality testing, pasteurization, homogenization, and automated packaging. The technical staff provided detailed insights into each step of milk processing, emphasizing the critical role of temperature control and hygiene in ensuring product quality and safety.
A major highlight of the visit was the in-depth explanation of the refrigeration and HVAC systems used to maintain the cold storage units. The experts demonstrated how modern cooling technologies are integrated into dairy operations to enhance energy efficiency and product preservation — aligning perfectly with ASHRAE’s mission of promoting sustainable refrigeration and air-conditioning practices.
An interactive Q&A session followed, where students engaged with engineers and plant officials to clarify their queries regarding mechanical systems, process automation, and energy management in the food industry.
Students gained valuable insights into milk processing, cold chain logistics, and industrial refrigeration, along with an increased awareness of quality assurance protocols in the dairy sector. The visit effectively bridged the gap between academic theory and industrial practice, motivating students to explore career opportunities in HVAC, refrigeration, and food processing industries. The initiative received highly positive feedback and was regarded as a successful experiential learning exercise for the ASHRAE members.
