Workshop on Information Security
18th April 2016
A workshop on "Information Security" was organized by CSI Chapter under the banner of Digital India on 18th April 2016 at Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida. Students from Department of Computer Science Engineering and Information Technology participated in the workshop. Prof. (Dr.) S.K. Muttoo, Head of Department, Delhi University was invited as the Resource Person for the event.
The objective of the workshop was to equip the students with the knowledge of various topics on Cyber Security such as Cryptography, Network Security and Web security.
Dr. Muttoo started the session with an introduction to cryptography and cryptanalysis. He discussed the various tenets of information security and the basics of coding theory, the concept of binary symmetric channel and the various error correction methods. He further went on to explain Hamming distance and use of Hamming Codes and Extended Hamming Codes for error correction. Other topics like steganography and DES algorithm along with compression techniques of JPEG and parity check captured the interest of the students. In the next session the students were given numerical problems to solve. Although the students unanimously agreed on the informativeness and usefulness of the workshop, students seemed to be much more benefitted with the rich exposure of technicalities and concepts in the workshop, which they are yet to come across.
The event came to an end with a vote of thanks by Mr. Subhrajit Nag, HOD (IT), CSI Coordinator.
