Workshop on LINUX

A one day Workshop on Linux was conducted by Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay on 23rd August 2019 at Dronacharya Group of Institution, Greater Noida(IIT RC - 1316) through A - View. The workshop was meant for faculties from technical institutions to enhance the skills which in turn would be beneficial for students and teacher from various technical institutes. The workshop was organized under the aegis of Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya National Mission on Teachers and Teaching (PMMMNMTT) funded by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India.
30 participants from technical institutions across the state participated in this workshop which was coordinated by Mr. Rajkamal K Gupta, Assistant Professor, CSE Dept, Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida.
The workshop was inaugurated by Prof. Kannan Moudgalya, Principal Investigator, PMMMNMTT, IIT Bombay and Prof. Pramod Murali, Faculty, IIT Bombay. Prof. Moudgalya briefed the participants about LINUX, which is an operating system that works similar to Windows and Mac OS. As an operating system, Linux manages all hardware and provides services to other software needs to run.
While explaining the features of Linux, Prof. Pramod Murali said though using Linux initially may be a little challenging, but once you know your way around Linux, you'll be using the command line and installing packages at ease. This workshop was aimed at easing the world of Linux.
Giving a brief of the course, Prof. Kannan Moudgalya - Spoken Tutorial Coordinator, IIT Bombay said that FOSSEE (Free / Libre and Open Source Software for Education) project at IIT Bombay has been promoting LINUX, and other FLOSS software, such as Python, Scilab, OpenFOAM, eSim, Osdag, OpenModelica, DWSIM & R, and Open Source hardware, such as Arduino and OpenPLC. FOSSEE is also funded by NMEICT, MHRD. Government of India has mandated the use of open source software.
After the inaugural session the participants attended the lab session in which they accustomed themselves in using Linux.
The workshop ended with a doubt clearing session by IIT-Bombay FOSSEE Team through A - VIEW.
