Management Development Program on
"Effective Communication for Managerial Success"

Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow in association with Dr.A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU), Lucknow organized a 3-Days Management Development Program on “Effective Communication for Managerial Success” for AKTU affiliated colleges' faculty members from 30th August 2019 to 1st September 2019 at IIM Lucknow, Noida Campus. Dr. Sahab Singh, Associate Professor, Department of Management Studies, Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida attended this valued program.
The goal of this MDP was to equip the participants with management skills to engage students for the smooth conduction of classes, sharpen their minds for solving the problems skillfully for the holistic development and improvement of young generation and to discuss a few strategies to make engineering education meaningful and human centric.
Inaugural Session :
Prof. (Dr.) Neerja Pande, Program Director-Effective Communication for Managerial Success, IIM Lucknow, Campus Noida & Professor of Business Communication, thanked Prof. Vineet Kansal, Dean-UG, AKTU, Lucknow for his praiseworthy contribution under the leadership of Prof. Vinay Pathak, Vice Chancellor, AKTU for taking several initiatives to equip AKTU affiliated engineering colleges' faculty members and administrative staff with management skills by providing excellent opportunities for better engineering education.
Dr. Pande welcomed the participants and invited them for lighting the candle and offer prayers to Maa Saraswati. Dr.Pande then shared some major achievement of IIM-L in her inaugural key address.
Session : Day-1
Prof. Pande conducted a session on how to behave with students, suggesting the participants to :
- Be the change they want to see in this world
- never reject students' thoughts
- become a facilitator rather than an expert and all-rounder
She emphasized that a teacher can excel even in a challenging situation if he / she does not spend time in judging the students but take the initiative and become the role model.
Prof. Pande stressed upon the 3-M (Mind, Matter & Manner) framework of persuasive communication.
Dr. Ajay Singh, Professor of HRM, IIM Lucknow, discussed how “Cross Cultural Communication” divides the world into two sets, monochronic and polychronic.
Prof. Singh stressed upon the importance of punctuality. Discussing brain-drain he said that though the best technical and managerial brains are in India but the gamblers who hire these brains are in United States.
Session : Day-2
Mr. Dipendra Rawat, a theatre trainer by profession, conducted several team building activities during his session on “Leveraging Body Language & Presence” to train the participants on proper delivery with action.
Dr. Nandita Roy, Professor of Communication, IIM Lucknow, shared her expertize during the session on “Effective Communication”. She explained how one can get a rich feedback from the audience, instead of asking “Any Questions?” after the successful delivery of lecture.
Dr. Roy insisted on using Google Drive for students' feedback since it is more effective instead of using paper & pen. She suggested that online data will help understand the leaders to take corrective action immediately.
Session : Day-3
Mr. Sharat Chander, former Media Advisor to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, drew attention of participants by sharing a know-how on “New Age Media for Effective Communication” in India. He also expalined why media is needed to give an extensive care during specific time in a specified area, and when and how it works effectively.
Prof. Pande said that teachers must always encourage their students and ensure their involvement in real and practical work. He suggested that a teacher must put his / her feet into the shoes of students to understand their specific issues.
Prof. Pande awarded the Participation Certificates to the participants during the Valedictory Session. He concluded the MDP with the quote, "Desired goals can be achieved, if the motivation and engagement of students is done."
