WORKSHOP ON CYBER SECURITY & CYBER FORENSICS ORGANIZED BY CSI STUDENT CHAPTER

One - day workshop on “Cyber Security & Cyber Forensics” was organized by CSI Student Chapter of Dronacharya Group of Institution, Greater Noida which was sponsored by CSI (Computer Society of India) Noida Chapter on 30th March 2015. Forty - Four students from different engineering disciplines (CSE / IT / CS& IT) attended the workshop.
The workshop was organized to address growing importance of Information Security and issue related to Cyber Crime in the modern world. With growing economy, huge IT industry, increasing roll out of e-Governance and online applications, the cyber criminals are attracted to target Country and its citizen. Cyber security deals with technologies, processes and practices designed to protect networks, computers, programs and data from attack and unauthorized access.
The workshop started with welcome speech by Mr. Anuj Aggarwal (Chairman, Computer Society of India (CSI) NoidaChapter) and followed by eminent speaker Mr. Subrahmani Babu (Scientist C, CERT - IN ), Dept of IT, Ministry of Communication & IT.
Mr. Anuj Aggarwal in his keynote address, introduced the Theme of the workshop and discussed the growing importance of Information Security in the modern world. He elaborated on the different threats prevalent in the cyber world today and suggested different counter measures to avoid falling prey to these imminent threats. The workshop touched upon various topics, such as introduction to ethical hacking, introduction to Cyber Forensics, Information & Cyber Security, Enterprise Data Security & practical examples of Cyber Laws. He further stated fraud is an easy to carry out as currently there is poor security in legacy applications and protocols, as the end user is not educated to act properly. Cyber criminal mainly want to become rich and powerful in a rapid and easy way. Some of them want to destabilize society. However, a big part of Cyber Crime can be linked to botnets, networks of systems being compromised by malware. Botnets are used for spamming, click generation, dialer installation, spyware / malware / ransom ware installation, espionage, etc. The fight against botnets is hence an important part of the fight against cybercrime.
Mr. Subrahmani Babu gave insight into the various attacks used by cyber criminals to manipulate and use sensitive information of people round the world. He further added the goal of Cyber Forensics is to examine digital media in a forensically sound manner with the aim of identifying, preserving, recovering, analyzing and presenting facts and opinions about the digital information. It is the application of scientifically proven methods to gather, process, interpret, and to use digital evidence to provide a conclusive description of Cyber Crime activities. It also includes the act of making digital data suitable for inclusion into a criminal investigation. Mr. Subrahmani Babu gave hands on session to the students on different cyber forensic tools used for investigation on a cyber crime scene and explained about Cyber Forensics, branch of digital forensic science pertains to legal evidence found in Computers and digital storage media. It is the scientific process of identification, seizure, acquisition, authentication, analysis, documentation and preservation of digital evidence involved in cyber crimes committed using computer systems, computer network, mobile devices and other peripheral devices.
The goal of this workshop was to provide a platform for students to work on papers, products, projects and solutions in cyber security filed. Student were motivated to put their thinking caps on and dive deep to explore the numerous exciting opportunities available in the world of Cyber Security & Cyber Forensics.
