Key themes included the need to address gender disparity in political representation, the importance of education and financial independence for women, and the role of institutions in nurturing leadership qualities among young women.
The session also highlighted critical challenges such as societal biases, delayed implementation due to census and delimitation requirements, and the risk of symbolic representation. Panelists stressed that reservation alone is not sufficient and must be supported by systemic efforts such as leadership training, inclusive policies, and active allyship. The discussion further emphasized that cultural transformation and grassroots participation are essential for the effective realization of the Act’s objectives.
Following the panel discussion, an interactive question-and-answer session was conducted, where NSS volunteers and students actively participated by raising thoughtful and relevant questions. This segment reflected the high level of awareness and engagement among students, as well as their keen interest in issues related to governance and gender equality.
A significant highlight of the programme was the passing of a formal institutional resolution expressing full support for the Nari Shakti Vandana Adhiniyam, 2023. The resolution reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to promoting awareness, encouraging women’s participation in leadership roles, and creating an inclusive academic environment. It also pledged to undertake initiatives such as workshops, seminars, and mentorship programmes to empower female students and prepare them for active roles in governance and public life.
Overall, the Panel Discussion on Women Empowerment proved to be a highly impactful and thought-provoking event. It successfully achieved its objectives of spreading awareness, encouraging meaningful dialogue, and reinforcing the institution’s commitment to gender equality. The initiative not only educated participants about the significance of the Act but also inspired students, especially young women, to aspire toward leadership roles and contribute actively to the nation’s development.
