Educational Visit to CSIR - NPL Open Day
6th October 2021
Dronacharya Group of Institutions organized a visit to the National Physical Laboratory (NPL) in New Delhi on October 6, 2021, to celebrate CSIR Foundation Day. The event saw the participation of 42 students from the ECE, ME, and EEE departments, accompanied by Dr. Mamta Bhardwaj, the visit coordinator. The purpose of the trip was to provide students with a first-hand look at the scientific and technological research being conducted at NPL.
CSIR-NPL is India’s National Metrology Institute and one of the country’s leading research institutions. Each year, on September 30th, NPL celebrates its Foundation Day by inviting students from various schools and colleges to explore its advanced research facilities and various scientific fields.
During the visit, the students first explored the superconductor lab, where they learned about superconductivity and observed a live demonstration of the Meissner effect. They also got to see equipment used to measure the electrical and thermal properties of superconductors. The group then moved on to the Raman Spectroscopy Lab, where they learned about its various applications, including its use in the medical field. In the Sound Transmission Lab, they experienced rooms designed for complete sound absorption and reflection and gained knowledge on sound transmission techniques. The visit concluded with a film showcasing NPL's accomplishments, followed by refreshments provided by NPL authorities.
Overall, the visit was an enriching and informative experience, giving students a deeper understanding of the scientific advancements occurring in the country. The hands-on demonstrations and exposure to real-world applications of scientific concepts sparked curiosity and excitement, making the visit both educational and inspiring.
