Online Session on Role of Mathematics in Era of Technology
20th October 2021
Institution's Innovation Council (MoE), Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida conducted an online session on “Role of Mathematics in Era of Technology” on 20th October, 2021. 250 students attended the workshop. Prof. (Dr.) Ram Jiwari from IIT Roorkee was the speaker of the workshop.
Prof. Ram Jiwari started the session and said, in maths classes all round the world, the most common thing one will hear is: “When are we ever going to use this in real life or for earning bread and butter?”. He added in engineering a special branch of Mathematics is used that is Applied Mathematics.
He continued by saying that mathematics is an integral part of engineering. It helps us to establish relationships among different quantities. Mathematics is of paramount importance if one is planning to study engineering at the university level. While in school, one must build a very strong understanding of mathematics because this is the foundation upon which engineering study will be based.
Then he explained that Maths is utilized in a variety of ways within many fields of engineering. The most crucial aspects being involvement in cost–benefit–risk analysis and the use of mathematical models which may include a set of rules and instructions that specifies precisely the way to be taken, whether the steps are arithmetic, logical, or geometric. Sometimes even very simple rules and instructions can have consequences which are difficult to predict without actually carrying out the steps.
He mentioned in the end after answering all the queries of students that nearly each and every aspect of mathematics can be, and is, applied to the engineering design process in one way or the other. All fields within engineering require a quantum leap knowledge of distinct maths skills, including (but not limited to) algebra, calculus, geometry, measurements, tables and graphic representations of results, mathematical formulas, and time lines.
