Two Week ISTE STTP on Engineering Physics

Conducted by IIT Bombay

8th - 18th December 2015

A Two Week ISTE STTP on Engineering Physics under the National Mission on Education through ICT (MHRD, Govt. Of India) was organized by IIT Bombay at Dronacharya Group of  Institutions, Greater Noida from 8th - 18th December 2015 through ICT.

The aim of the workshop was to empower teachers, through unique blend of technology.

Ten faculties from various colleges like Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Mangalmay Institute of Engineering & Technology, Greater Noida, M.C.M.D.A.V. College Kangra etc. participated in the workshop.

Following Faculty members from IIT Bombay were the Teaching faculty for the workshop:

  • Prof. Dipan K Ghosh
  • Prof. Shiva Prasad
  • Prof. K. G. Suresh

Day 1: 8th December 2015
The Inaugural session began with an informative speech by  Prof. Deepak B. Phatak, Principal Investigator. Prof. Phatak discussed various methodologies adopted in enhancing engineering education. He also discussed the journey of this project and its benefits for the faculties across India.

The session began with the presentation on “Electromagnetism and Quantum Idea” by Prof. Dipan K Ghosh. Prof. Ghosh discussed various topics of electromagnetism, like the Concept of Field, Vector Field and its Mathematical Representation, Electric Field and Potential Field, Electric Flux and Gauss law and Dielectrics. He discussed Divergence of a vector field in detail.

Prof. Shiva Prasad discussed Failure of Maxwell Boltzmann Doctrine regarding equipartition of energy and Michelson Morley experiment. He also discussed the frame of reference and its velocity.

Day 2: 9th December 2015
Prof. Dipan K Ghosh discussed Vector field and Helmholtz decomposition in detail.

Prof. Shiva Prasad discussed the Young Double slit experiment and its applications.

Day 3: 10th December 2015
Prof. Dipan K Ghosh explained the charge density on the plane. He also discussed magnet monopoles in an isolated magnetic field.
Prof. Shiva Prasad discussed Time dependent Schrodinger Wave Equation and Quantum mechanics. He explained the physical interpretation of the wave function in terms of probability of finding the particle. He also explained Orthonormality property of the wave function.

Day 4: 11th December 2015
A very informative lecture was delivered by Prof. Dipan K Ghosh, on the concept of vector potential of a uniform magnetic field. He also conducted a session on Quantum Mechanics.

Day 5: 12th December 2015
Prof. Dipan K Ghosh delivered a lecture on the concept of Vector Potential of Uniform Magnetic Field. He also discussed the Faraday Law.

Prof. Shiva Prasad discussed the one-dimensional system and harmonic oscillator equation and schrodinger wave equation for 3-dimesional well.

Prof. K. G. Suresh started his session through the discussion on basic introduction of magnetism in materials. He explained the types of magnetic materials like Diamagnetism, Para Magnetism, Ferro-magnetism, Anti-Ferro Magnetism and Ferri Magnetism.

Day 6: 14th December 2015
Session began with the discussion on the quaries raised by the different institutes by Prof. K. G. Suresh. He covered all the problems with the simplest solution. He then discussed Magnetism. He explained Hamiltonian of an electron in the  presence of the  magnetic field B.

Prof. Shiva Prasad discussed Crystallography in his session. He started with the Bravais Lattices.
