Survey Camp at Manali(H. P.)
19th – 23rd October, 2019
ASCE Student Chapter of Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida, organized a Survey Camp to Pandoh Dam, Mandi, Himachal Pradesh. The camp was a five day tour to Himachal Pradesh from 19th – 23rd October, 2019 for the students of V Semester B.Tech Civil Engineering. During the trip, students visited Hydroelectric Power Project in Sunder Nagar which is managed by Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB).
20th October 2019
The students led by the faculty member, Mr. Gaurav Kumar reached Sunder Nagar and went to BBMB Hydroelectric Power Project. They were briefed about the working principles of Pandoh Dam by the supervising authority.
The guide explained the agricultural and economic benefits of the project, dead storage cleaning process, filtration of suspended solids before they enter the turbines, type of turbine used etc. Er. S Kumar said that the dam was constructed in 1977 with majority of work being done manually. Even now the data management system of the dam is effectively run manually.
The water is used for power generation at the Dehar Power House before being discharged into the Sutlej River, connecting both rivers with the help of an underwater tunnel of nearly 13Km.
After the visit to Sunder Nagar Power Project, the team headed for Manali.
21st October 2019
The team went for the "Survey Camp-2019" at Rohtang Pass, where they practiced Closed Compass Traversing. Prismatic Compass was used for the Closed Traversing.
22nd October 2019
In morning, students were taken to Kullu where they did the survey of undulated area of hilly terrain using Total Station.
23rd October 2019
The students went for the sightseeing and later headed back to Greater Noida.
Students took good interest and completed the survey work successfully. Overall it was a knowledge enriching and a motivational trip for the students.
