Short Term Course on Curriculum Implementation

Mr. Manoj Kumar Yadav from the CSE Department of Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida participated in a one-week short-term course on "Curriculum Implementation" held from 14th to 18th October 2019 at NITTTR, Chandigarh. The course aimed to provide an in-depth understanding of the processes involved in curriculum development and its effective implementation in technical education.
Day 1 began with an introduction to curriculum development, where Dr. S. K. Gupta, the course coordinator, explained the key differences between a syllabus and a curriculum. He detailed the components of a curriculum, including course objectives, instructional strategies, and employability details. The session also covered curriculum design models such as ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation), highlighting the importance of a data-driven, dynamic curriculum. The day concluded with a discussion on the factors influencing curriculum implementation, including faculty competency, physical resources, and industry connections.
On Day 2, Prof. J. S. Saini introduced the National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF) and its focus on short, modular programs. The concept of Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) was discussed, alongside the importance of external assessment bodies for training programs. Prof. S. K. Gupta also emphasized the norms for faculty, infrastructure, and resources based on the AICTE's Approval Process Handbook. Prof. S. K. Dutt later presented different evaluation techniques such as Placement, Formative, Summative, and Diagnostic Evaluation.
Day 3 included a session on Project Work by Mr. K. H. S. Dhindsa, explaining the importance of projects in the curriculum. The participants also explored techniques for effective classroom communication and overcoming instructional barriers. Prof. Srinivasan provided insights into NBA Accreditation and how to map Program Outcomes (PO), Program Educational Outcomes (PEO), and Course Outcomes (CO) using Bloom’s Taxonomy.
Day 4, Prof. J. S. Saini discussed the competencies expected by industries, focusing on both hard skills and soft skills. Prof. Sanjeev Sofat of Chandigarh University also introduced Project-Based Learning and emphasized its importance in the curriculum. An industrial visit to the Indo Swiss Training Centre (ISTC) gave participants a firsthand experience of curriculum implementation in a successful technical training environment.
The final day, Day 5, focused on the need for industry-academia networking for effective curriculum implementation. Prof. S. K. Gupta highlighted the importance of mutual collaboration between industry and educational institutions. Prof. P. K. Singla provided insights into Instructional Strategies, stressing the need for research-based best practices, active learning, and effective teacher-student interactions. The course concluded with group presentations on the issues faced during curriculum implementation and the potential solutions, followed by a Valediction Ceremony, where participants were awarded certificates for completing the course.
