"Early detection is the key to prevention"
Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida has celebrated “Breast Cancer Awareness Month” in October 2019 under which a webinar was organized for the female staff and students.
Doctor from Aastha Hospital stated breast cancer is the most prevalent form of cancer. This disease has become a major problem all across the world including India.
With the help of videos she elaborated, breast cancer is caused by uncontrolled growth of cells, which results in formation of lumps within the breast. It is one of the treatable forms of cancers unless or until detected early. Otherwise it can be a life threatening disease as it can also spread to other parts of the body.
She discussed facts that breast cancer affects women both in the developed and the developing world. It can occur at any age but, it is most common in women above the age of 40 years. In India, Breast Cancer accounts for 25% to 31% of all cancers in women. The average age of developing breast cancer has also undergone a significant shift from 50 - 70 years to 30 - 50 years.
She informed students and staff against risk factors of breast cancer such as family history, breast lumps, dense breast, age, diet and lifestyle choices, radiation exposure, obesity and estrogen exposure.
In the end she mentioned about self –examination that one should be aware as to how their breast normally looks and feel and if one feels any change, then doctor should be consulted.
