A One-Day Orientation-cum-Workshop was organized for Participating Institutes (PIs) under Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA 2.0) at Dayalbagh Educational Institute (Deemed University), Agra on 2nd December 2019. Faculty members from Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida, Dr.S.K.Srivastava, Professor, Department of Applied Sciences and Humanities and Mr. Rajranjan Prasad, Asst. Professor,Electronics and Communication Engineering attended the workshop.
The Inaugural Session began with informative words of Dr. Ashok Jangid, Coordinator RCI-DEI, UBA 2.0, Department of Physics & Computer Science, Dayalbagh Educational Institute. He said that the conceptualization of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan started with the initiative of a group of dedicated faculty members of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi working for long in the area of rural development and appropriate technology. The concept was nurtured through wide consultation with the representatives of a number of technical institutions, Rural Technology Action Group (RuTAG) coordinators, voluntary organizations and government agencies, actively involved in rural development work, during a National workshop held at IIT Delhi in September, 2014.
Mr. Ajayveer Singh Yadav, Deputy Director, Social Welfare Department, Agra Mandal was the Chief Guest of this One-Day Orientation-cum-Workshop.
He emphasized upon the need for field work, stake-holder interactions and design for societal objectives as the basis of higher education and to foster a new dialogue within the larger community on science, society and the environment and to develop a sense of dignity and collective destiny.
Prof. Anand Mohan, Registrar - Dayalbagh Educational Institute discussed the vision of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan. He said that Unnat Bharat Abhiyan is inspired by the vision of transformational change in rural development processes by leveraging knowledge institutions to help build the architecture of an Inclusive India. He also discussed the Mission of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan. He said that Unnat Bharat Abhiyan is to enable higher educational institutions to work with the people of rural India in identifying developmental challenges and evolving appropriate solutions for accelerating sustainable growth. It also aims to create a virtuous cycle between society and an inclusive academic system by providing knowledge and practices for emerging professions and to upgrade the capabilities of both the public and the private sectors in responding to the development needs of rural India.
After tea break the session started with the Frame work of plan of action and funding and convergence by Prof. Priyanka and Prof. Vivek, IIT Delhi. They explained about the plan of action for villages, i.e.,
- Awareness camps for water management, water safety.
- Awareness about natural ponds and their cleanliness from weeds and cleanliness campaign by students to clean the ponds.
- Awareness and cleanness of natural water resources like step well, wells etc.
- Awareness and use of twin bin system in each home and waste management and recycling and revising.
- Placement of Garbage bins in the village.
- Construction of water tank for conserving water from the natural spring.
- Solar light in public places in the village.
They also discussed the funding part of project related to Unnat Bharat Abhiyan.
Prof. Prem Saran Triumalani, DEI Dayalbagh, discussed about DEI's contribution in enhancing livelihoods of local street food venders. He said that DEI Dayalbagh and local food authorities started training session for street food vendors on subjects including health, hygiene, safe food handling, waste food disposal and entrepreneurship. At these trainings, vendors learn about how to handle food with gloves, hand washing, storage techniques, proper washing of fruits and vegetables, personal hygiene and entrepreneurship.
Prof. K. Soami Daya, DEI Dayalbagh, said that DEI aims to serve as an exemplary model of education, covering the entire spectrum of knowledge and wisdom, to selflessly serve mankind by evolving a race of supermen, who possess the virtues to resolve the grave global challenges and establish a more humane and enlightened society.
After Lunch break session started with field experience in different areas.
Dairy - The field experience was shared by Prof. Prem Saran Titumalai. He said that Dairy Science focuses on the production and manufacturing of all dairy products, including milk. Entering this field requires knowledge of animal nutrition, reproduction, lactation and business.
Gawashala - The experience was shared by Prof. Suneshwar Prasad. He said Gaushalas are protective shelters for cows in India. They focus on treating cows well and consequent cultural sensitivity towards their welfare. As the initial step in this, indigenous bullocks are being distributed to various Goshalas for the development of breed. People have been visiting for the study and training on cow development from various parts of the state.
Textile Lab - The experience was shared by Prof. Payal Bhatnagar. She discussed the textile industry in India which traditionally, after agriculture, is the only industry that has generated huge employment for both skilled and unskilled labour. The textile industry continues to be the second-largest employment generating sector in India. She also explained that Handbag Design and Manufacturing.
The Orientation-Cum-Workshop ended with the certificate distribution by Dr. Ashok Jangid, DEI Dayalbagh and the Vote of Thanks by Dr. Ranjit Kumar, Department of Chemistry, DEI Dayalbagh.
