1st KHELO INDIA SCHOOL GAMES
31st January to 8th February, 2018
The first edition of Khelo India School Games (KISG) was held from from 31st January to 8th February, 2018 in New Delhi. It was inaugurated by Prime Minister, Sh. Narendra Modi in the august presence of Col. Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, several dignitaries, coaches, participants, volunteers and the audience.
It was held under the Khelo India Programme aimed at providing a launchpad to the country’s young and promising athletes to showcase their talent at the national level.
Seven members of the DGI-NSS Wing participated in the KISG as volunteers. These volunteers reported for the Orientation Training Program on 28 January 2018 at K D Jadhav Hall, Indira Gandhi Stadium New Delhi. Specific duties were assigned to each volunteer.
2018 KISG was held across 16 disciplines in Under-17 age category. The events included Archery, Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Boxing, Football, Gymnastics, Hockey, Judo, Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, Shooting, Swimming, Volleyball, Weightlifting, and Wrestling.
5,000 school children from 29 States and seven Union Territories participated in mega sporting event. A total of 199 gold medals, 199 silver medals and 275 bronze medals were awarded at first KISG.
Haryana emerged as overall champions, finishing with 102 medals, which included 38 gold, 26 silver and 38 bronze medals. Maharashtra finished second with 111 medals, which included 36 gold, 32 silver and 43 bronze medals. Delhi finished third with 94 medals, which included 25 gold, 29 silver, and 40 bronze.
The 1st KISG concluded on 8th February 2018 with the prize distribution. The Trophies for maximum participation were awarded to Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Rajasthan in that order.
The Sports Minister, Col Rajyavardhan Rathore, presented the Top State, Haryana, the second placed Maharashtra and third placed Delhi with the glittering customised Trophy.
The volunteers were lauded for their contribution in making the 1st KISG a successful event. They received the Appreciation Certificates.
