Clothes and Stationery Donation 2025
7th November 2025
NSS Units, Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida organized a Charity Donation drive and awareness visit to the Goonj Foundation, New Delhi, on 7th November 2025. NSS Student Volunteers from various departments and academic years, accompanied by faculty member Dr. Pallavi Verma, actively participated in this outreach initiative.
The primary objective of the visit was to help students understand the impactful social work carried out by Goonj and contribute to their noble cause through material donations.
Goonj Foundation works extensively to transform underutilized urban materials into valuable development resources for rural communities. Its flagship initiative, Cloth for Work (CFW), motivates rural communities to take up development projects such as building bridges, digging wells, or creating irrigation systems in exchange for old but usable materials. Along with this, Goonj plays a significant role in disaster relief, sanitation awareness, livelihood generation, educational support, and addressing menstrual hygiene challenges in underserved regions.
During the visit, students learned about several core initiatives including Cloth for Work, disaster relief and mitigation under the SARRD framework, and the urban–rural material linkage system that channels surplus city materials to rural areas instead of letting them become waste. Goonj also contributes to rural livelihood creation, especially empowering women by involving them in meaningful community development through material exchange programs.
The team was also briefed on other major projects such as Not Just a Piece of Cloth, which focuses on combating period poverty and promoting menstrual hygiene; School to School, a program that redistributes unused educational materials from urban schools to rural students; and Green by Goonj, an initiative that produces eco-friendly, upcycled products crafted from discarded materials while connecting urban donors with rural artisans.
The visit to the Goonj Foundation proved to be highly enriching and impactful. It offered students a deeper understanding of social responsibility, sustainability, and community-driven development.
