1st International Conference on English Learning and
Teaching Skills
July 25 - 28, 2018
The 1st International Conference on English Learning and Teaching Skills was organized at Institute of Engineering and Management, Kolkata in collaboration with Indian Statistical Institute (ISI, Kolkata), English Language Teachers Association of India (ELT@I) and British Council during July 25-28, 2018. The conference was a premier interdisciplinary platform for the presentation of new advances and research results in the field of English Language Teaching which brought together leading interdisciplinary academicians, educators, researchers and scholars in the domain of interest from around the world.
The conference was inaugurated by Dr. Stayjit Chakrabarti, President, IEM, Kolkata.
There were several keynote speeches delivered by the following dignitaries :

- Ms Sanjibita R. Mc Donald Tariang Sen, The Vice Consul, British High Commission, Kolkata
- Mr. James A. Dragon, Director, American Center, Kolkata
- Dr. Debanjan Chakrabarti, Director British Council East and Northeast India
- Dr. Debashis Roy, IPS, ADG & IGP, Telecommunication, West Bengal
- Dr. Probal Dasgupta, Professor & HOD, Linguist Research Unit, Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata
- Mr. Narayan Karmakar, CMD, Shree Jagannath Shilpodyog Ltd.
- Dr. Sanjukta Das, Professor and Head, Psychology, University of Calcutta
The conference saw presentations by 130 participants and 12 invited speakers from around the world. It provided a great learning experience and an excellent opportunity to interact with the researchers about their findings and views during conference sessions, tea breaks and conference dinner. Consequently, a network of a number of academicians and researchers from different countries with similar research interests, i.e. English language teaching (ELT) was formed.
Mrs. Ekta Singh, Assistant Professor - Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida presented her paper titled "Developing Speaking Skills in English Language Courses using ICT for the Engineering students: An Indian Context" in the conference on 26th July 2018. Heritage Publication would publish the paper in the conference book.
Mrs. Ekta Singh also attended a workshop entitled "Intercultural Communication" conducted by Dr. Sampa Chatterjee, Ex Director and Associate Professor, Institute of English, Calcutta on 28th July 2018.
During the Valedictory Session, held on 28th July 2018, Ms. Sujata Sen, CEO, HOPE Foundation made the closing remarks.
Dr. Robert P Schmaker, Associate Professor of Computer Science, University of Texas presented the certificates and awards to the presenters.
