One week Summer Workshop on AUTOCAD

16th - 21st July, 2018

A one week summer workshop on "AUTOCAD" was organized by Mechanical Engineering Department in association with SAE India Collegiate Club of Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida during 16th -21st July 2018. Mr. Brijesh Verma, Associate Professor (Mechanical Engineering Department) was the resource person for this workshop.

The objective of this workshop was to train student on various aspects of AUTOCAD and to expose them to the lucrative carrier in the field of design and development.

The workshop was inaugurated by Hon'ble Director Prof.(Dr.) Ashish Soti. He highlighted the importance of engineering drawing in the field of design and encouraged the participants to use software tools i.e. AUTOCAD for their project work. Prof. B. L. Kaul, Registrar  DGI Greater Noida advised the students to be attentive and get benefited from such workshop.

16th Jul 2018

On first day Mr. Brijesh Verma started the session with a brief description of engineering drawing. He explained various types of letters and lines used in engineering drawing and further explained projection, section of solids and isometric projections. Students also got to learn First & Third angle projections and symbols of projections used in drawing.

In post lunch, Mr. Verma gave a brief introduction of AutoCAD. Students were informed about its first release and the revised versions launched thereafter.

17th Jul 2018

On the second day Mr. Verma described tool bar, menu bar, command window and status bar used in AutoCAD. He then explained the process of setting up the drawing environment. He discussed the Absolute and Relative Coordinate System. He further explained that Object Snap settings.

In post lunch session Mr. Verma started with 2D drafting command and explained how to draw lines, rectangles and circles in AutoCAD. Students also learned the usage of DIMLINEAR, DIMALIGNED and DIMRADIUS command.

18th Jul 2018

Mr. Verma continued the 2-D command session. He demonstrated various commands with examples such as COPY, MOVE, JOIN MIRROR, EXTEND and ROTATE commands.

In next half, students learned how to draw polygon with inscribed and circumscribed condition. Then they were explained FILLET command, which is used to draw a radius between two intersecting lines or adjacent polyline segments. He later discussed the CHAMFER command that creates a chamfer between two non-parallel lines or any two adjacent polyline segments.

19th July 2018

On fourth day students worked on drawing sheets using AutoCAD commands.

In post lunch session students were explained the orthographic projection after which the students drew the front view, top view and side view with proper dimensioning. Mr. Verma then explained how to draw isometric projections in 3 dimensional axis.

20th Jul 2018

The day began with a session on layer command. Student learned how this command is used to depict different lines i.e. construction line, dimension line, part line etc.

During the post lunch session Mr. Verma discussed the commands for 3D Modeling. Several commands such as EXTRUDE, BOX, CONE and SPHERE were discussed. He emphasized on UNION, SUBTRACT and INTERSECT commands.

21st Jul 2018

Mr.Verma explained the usage of commands like SWEEP, REVOLVE LOFT etc. Participants applied these command to create 3D objects such as nut, bolt, spring etc.

In the post lunch session, a 2D Drafting Competition was held in which students were asked to complete 2D drawing worksheet within a given time frame. The workshop concluded with evaluation of drawings on the basis of time and quality of finish.

Students showed their keen interest in learning the fundamentals of the 2D Drafting and 3D Modeling on AutoCAD. The lectures, discussions and hands on practices on AutoCAD offered a lot to learn for the participants.
