NSS Wing of Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida organized a Health Awareness Session on"STROKE" in association with Dr. Reddy's Foundation for Health Education (DRFHE) and Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) on 21st July 2016. Dr. Atampreet Singh, Neurologist, Fortis Hospital conducted the session. 38 staff members attended the session at DGI, Greater Noida.
The objective of the session was to provide an overview of stroke disorder in India and help stroke survivors to improve the quality of their lives.
After the introduction of Dr. Atampreet Singh by NSS Coordinator Mr. Abhishek Swami, the session started with the welcome of Dr. Singh with a bouquet by Prof. (Dr.) S.K. Bagga, Director, DGI Greater Noida as a token of respect.
Dr. Singh commenced the session with the overview of stroke. He focused on causes of stroke and said that stroke occurs when the blood supply to brain is interrupted or reduced due to bleeding or blockage. This deprives brain of oxygen and nutrients, which can cause brain cells to die.
Dr. Singh pointed out that hypertension and diabetes are the main causes for stroke. Smoking and consuming alcohol also causes stroke. He said that stroke can be prevented by controlling high blood pressure, avoiding tobacco use and leading a healthy life style.
Dr. Singh said that delay in visiting hospital results in delay in recovery from the stroke. One should not delay in visiting nearby clinic or undergoing X-ray or on other routine checkups when required. He also added that the recovery of those affected with the stroke would depend on how soon those people visit the hospital for treatment.
The seminar ended with the query session. Dr. Singh was presented with a memento by Director Prof. (Dr.) S.K Bagga, DGI, Greater Noida for conducting the awareness session.
Dr. S.K. Srivastava, Coordinator, DGI NSS Wing rendered Vote of Thanks.
