Workshop on Smart Classroom

24th - 25th June 2019
To keep the teachers abreast with the latest teaching learning process, using new teaching methods instead of traditional method, IIT Bombay conducted a two days Smart Classroom Workshop in its campus on June 24th - 25th, 2019.
The workshop was held as part of the IITB projects titled "Bodhi Tree : A Platform for Improving Learning Outcomes using Online Interactive Courses and Assessed Labs", funded by Tata Center for Technology and Design (IIT Bombay) and Smart Classrooms : Teaching Aids for Effective Teaching in Large Classrooms funded by MHRD under the IMPRINT Scheme.
Mr. Rajat Kumar, Assistant Professor, Dept. of CSE, Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida attended the workshop at IIT Bombay for Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida.
Prof. Bhaskaran Raman, Dept. of CSE, IIT Bombay, welcomed the participants and gave brief of the three software developed by IIT-Bombay Smart Classroom Team :
Prof. Kameshwari Chebrolu, Dept. of CSE, IIT Bombay in her address to the participants said that in today's world, it's time to adopt Digital Books, Videos and new methodologies, instead of traditional methods of teaching. She mentioned a quote of Benjamin Franklin, "Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn"
Prof. Kameshwari discussed the history of the development of the smart classroom concept. She said that the concept of smart class education is indeed a blessing to the students of the 21st century. It enhances the effectiveness of teaching and helps to maintain the students' interest and focus by engaging them fully for the entire learning experience.
After the Tea Break, Prof. Kameshwari conducted a session on Bodhi Tree Lab. She informed that it was successfully being implemented within IIT campus for several courses. She asked the participants to create their account on Bodhi Tree, create a dummy course, subscribe the course through the student login and start practicing as per instructions provided.
On Day-2, 25th June 2019, Prof. Bhaskaran Raman conducted the session on SAFE. He asked the participants to download the SAFE Application and perform practical as instructed. He demonstrated how to conduct online test using SAFE app and also showed how to take attendance of students through SAFE app. He also discussed its safety features.
In the next session Prof. Varsha Apte, Dept. of CSE, IIT Bombay introduced EVALPRO to the participants. EVALPRO is like a Integrated Development Environment (I.D.E), a web-based application which can greatly reduce the tedium of running a typical "lab" course in programming. It has features which can provide a practical lab online for online courses.
The workshop ended with the feedback session.
