"Basic 3D Animation Using Blender"
17th March 2016
A feedback session on "Basic 3D Animation Using Blender" was organized by KIET, Ghaziabad in collaboration with IIT BombayX on 17th March, 2016. The objective of the feedback session was to make the students aware about the usage and benefits of skill development course which covers basics of 3D modelling, texturing, lighting and animation using the free and open source tool : Blender. This online course is conducted by IIT BombayX. Ms. Sheetal Saigal, Assistant Professor (CSE), Mr. Jitendra Kumar Chauhan, Assistant Professor (CSE) and Ms. Priyanka Tripathi, Assistant Professor (IT) along with 2 students one of CSE IVth and one of IT IVth semester from Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida attended the session.
The feedback session was taken by course coordinator, Prof. Sameer S Sahasrabudhe. He works as Senior Faculty Associate with the School of Vocational Education at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences. He is a researcher in the area of visual communication for eLearning. He said that Animation is an emerging medium of communication. More and more students are getting into this domain. However, the animation training is expensive, and one of the reasons is the high cost of proprietary software. To create a sustainable solution for animation skill development, this course is designed using an open source 3D animation tool: Blender. He has guided UG and PG projects in Blender animation for eLearning and has published widely on this topic. He explained how to access the video tutorials, quizzes and assignments of the course. He emphasized on the effective use of text and graphics in presentations.
Prof. Sameer S Sahasrabudhe, showed various projects under his guidance on Blender tool. He gave the link of repository of projects using Blender tool (http://oscar.iitb.ac.in/blenderrepository.do). He showed some of the projects like Ammonia Fountain Experiment, Creating 3D Interactive Interface For Building E-Learning Animations, Interactive Simulations for Science and Maths. He suggested that students should complete their assignments on time, 50% aggregate marks in all quizzes are necessary for earning the certificate, queries can be put up through the discussion board.
He said that students having flair for drawing, painting, animation and film making would be benefitted from this course. But this course is especially helpful for Engineering Drawing students of first year. He highlighted that result of Engineering Drawing students was highly improved by attending this course. The queries by the students were well answered by him. It was a highly informative and interactive session.
