QEEE D2S Session on
Electromagnetic Theory - Electromagnetic Waves
24th, 28th & 30th August, 2017
QEEE Session on "Electromagnetic Theory - Electromagnetic Waves" was organized by IIT, Madras under D2S (Direct to Student) Program at Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida during on 24th, 28th & 30th August 2017. Prof. (Dr.) Deepa Venkitesh of IIT Madras was the resource person and Prof. Vinod Kumar, HOD-EEE, DGI Greater Noida was the local faculty coordinator for this course. Students of EEE & ECE 5th Semester attended the session.
Course Pack of the topic was designed in a systemic way to provide deep insight of Electromagnetic Waves.
Day 1: 24th August 2017
Prof. (Dr.) Deepa Venkitesh started her lecture with an introduction and definition of Electromagnetics and explained about the effects of electric charges in rest as well as in motion. She gave an overview of vector fields citing example of river. Later, she discussed Divergence and Curl as well as Line and Surface Integrals and derived the expressions for Stokes and Divergence Theorem. She also explained the Faraday's Law and Lenz’s Law and derived the Maxwell’s Equation by using the Faraday’s and Lenz’s Law.
Day 2: 28th August 2017
Prof. Deepa started her lecture at 02:00 PM with a brief review of the topics covered in her previous lecture. She later explained Lenz’s Law and derived the expression of Ampere’s Law. She also defined the Gauss Law and derived its expression using Ampere’s Law. In continuation of her lecture she discussed the conduction current and displacement current and derived the equation of Continuity Equation. She took some physical problems and solved them with the help of Gauss Law. She discussed about all the four equations of Maxwell in integral form.
Day 3: 30th August 2017
The third and last session of Electromagnetic Theory - Electromagnetic Waves QEEE Program started with Boundary Conditions. She discussed about Dielectric-Dielectric Boundary Condition and Dielectric-Conductor Boundary Condition of Electric Fields. She then discussed Dielectric-Dielectric Boundary Condition and Dielectric-Conductor boundary condition of Magnetic Fields. She also wrote differential form of Maxwell’s Equation. In continuation of her lecture, she explained Plane Wave at Dielectric Interface, Parallel Plane Waveguide and Helmholtz Equations. The program came to an end at 04:15 PM with the fruitful discussions on Electromagnetics.
Keeping in mind the benefits of the students, one proctored quiz and an assignment was given to the students, which was submitted by the students through their QEEE account on 18th September 2017.
