Industrial Visit to ALTTC - BSNL, Ghaziabad

Industrial Visit to Advance Level Telecom Training Centre (ALTTC), BSNL, Ghaziabad was organized by DGI Student Branch of IEEE on 25th August 2017. 50 students from ECE, EEE, CSE and CSIT 2nd Year along with Mr. Raj Ranjan Prasad Assistant Professor, ECE Department, DGI, Gr. Noida visited ALTTC.
The objective of industrial visit was to make the students aware of the practical techniques used for communication, latest equipment and components used, and trends in Electronics industry.
Mr. Anil Kumar (AGM-EB) and Mr. Abhishek Gupta (AD-EB) ALTTC, BSNL, Ghaziabad, welcomed the students and gave a brief introduction about the Training Centre.
The session started with the discussion on communication technology being used by BSNL with an emphasis on global network technology. ALTTC official further explained the functions of call detail record, call tracing technology, installation and execution procedure on various hardware platforms.
After the lecture, students were divided into two groups and taken to Optical Fiber Communication (OFC) Lab in which communication techniques through fiber optics were explained to them. Various optical cables such as single mode, multimode and tools such as buffer cutter, jacket strippers etc. were shown to the students. Thereafter, they were taken to the Broadband Lab in which they learnt about data communication using router and various cables required for its configuration. They also learnt the concept of IPV4 and IPV6.
Students were then taken to Mobile Lab, where two different techniques of voice and data transfer were illustrated. Methods to transfer data and voice in GSM and 3G were also explained to the students. They gained knowledge of Base Transceiver Section (BTS), Base Station Controller (BSC) and Mobile Switching Centre (MSC) related to Cellular Communication.
ALTTC official also explained the working principle of Satellites and procedure of network devices. They demonstrated the latest trends of the industry, and provided an opportunity for understanding the working of state of art equipment.
The visit was very useful for the students as it gave them an exposure to the field of communication.
