WORKSHOP ON "EMBEDDED SYSTEM DESIGN USING MSP430"
2nd to 4th June 2016
A Three day Faculty Development Program on "Embedded System Design Using MSP430" was organized by Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam Technical University, Lucknow in collaboration with Sapience Consulting under Texas Instruments India University at MIET, Meerut during 2nd – 4th June 2016. Instructors Mr. Raghav Ankur, Mr. Abdul Samad and Ms. Manjit Saini were the resource person from Texas Instrumentation. Mr. Nitin Kumar, Assistant Professor (ECE) fromDronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida attended the workshop.
This program was aimed at providing the state-of-art knowledge in the area of Embedded System Design to learn real world concepts and complement it with unique hands on experience in embedded domain on MSP430 Microcontroller Launchpad. It is designed to support all features to realize embedded applications.
Day 1: 2nd June 2016
The workshop started with introduction of Texas Instrumentation and their MSP430 microcontroller by Mr. Raghav Ankur. He gave a brief on Architecture, Mix Signal Processing capability, Clocks, Timer, Interrupts, Low Power Modes, UART, etc. of MSP430. He also explained the G (Value Line), F (Flash) and FR (FRAM) types from 1XXX to 6XXX series and in 14, 20 and 40 Pin configuration.
Mr. Ankur also introduced the MSP430 Launchpad. These Launchpad have all the required peripheral to burn program from PC and to perform other functions. He explained the different programing tools to compile and burn program on MSP430. He gave the training of CCS (Code Composer Studio) Tool. He provided the training on composing blinking LED program on MSP430 Launchpad. During FDP 20 set comprised of MSP430G2XXX, MSP430F5XXX, CC3100 Wi-Fi Connection board, one PC with CCS installed were distributed amongst 40 participants.
Day 2: 3rd June 2016
Mr. Abdul Samad explained the clocks, timer and interrupts of the MSP430 in detail. He said that the MSP430 has three 16 bit timers with multiple modes of operations, real time clock with calendar & alarm and one watchdog timer. It has three internal clocks for fast and slow peripheral. It has twenty three interrupts. He also provided the training on clocks, timer and interrupts programs on MSP430 Launchpad.
Day 3: 4th June 2016
Ms. Manjit Saini explained the UART, low power modes and ADC of MSP430 and CC3100 Wi-Fi Module in detail. The MSP430 have seven power saving mode for low power applications. CC3100 Wi-Fi booster pack is use for embedded purpose to provide internet connectivity which can provide email alerts by embedded device. CC3100 Wi-Fi booster pack is use for Internet of things (IoT). She provided the training on UART, low power modes, ADC and email alert programs on MSP430 Launchpad.
The workshop ended with a feedback session. Mr. Devendra Sharma, HOD (ECE), MIET Meerut delivered Vote of Thanks to the Instructors.
MSP430 Microcontroller has been added in the revised syllabus for Microcontroller as well as Microcontroller Lab of AKTU for VI Semester (ECE). The objective of the FDP was to give hands on training of MSP430 microcontroller. The workshop was very educative and informative. Participants got the exposure of MSP430 Microcontroller. The knowledge gained by the participants of the workshop will be beneficial for them in teaching the students as per new syllabus.
