Visit to 18th FICCI Higher Education Summit 2023

Institution's Innovation Council (IIC), Ministry of Education (MoE), Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida organized a visit to the 18th FICCI Higher Education Summit 2023, held at Dr. Ambedkar International Centre, New Delhi from 29th - 30th November 2023. Dr. Sahab Singh (MBA Department) and Prof. Rajat Kumar,(CSE Department) along with 15 students from Management & Engineering streams went to attend the summit.
FICCI, a largest and oldest apex business organisation and the voice of India's business & industry has organised a two day 18th Higher Education Summit-23 on a theme “Empowering Minds, Driving Transformation: Redefining the Future of Higher Education” on November 29-30, 2023. Several renowned education leaders, policymakers, business & engineering students, EduTech experts, well-known think tanks, senior government officials from Ministry of HRD, and representatives from national & international higher educational institutions have participated to discuss the innovative education practices in order to attain the sustainable development goals, in this summit.
Summit was concentrating around promoting lifelong learning, cherishing NEP-2020, embracing of digital innovation, ensuring inclusivity, boosting entrepreneurship, interdisciplinary education & research collaborations and student’s faculty exchange programmes with high-quality international Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), etc.
Nearly hundreds of higher educational institutions, alliances and industries have participated in the event for showcasing their brand and quality delivery of education using education technology to provide the opportunities for the youths as well as the institutions lacking behind in the field.
Dr. Vidya Yeravdekar, Chairperson of FICCI Higher Education Committee & Pro-Chancellor of Symbiosis International University stated everyone needs to join their hands together for the further improvement in this direction.
Also she emphasised upon the partnership of Ministry of Higher Education with NITI Aayog, NGOs and other ministries to support for building a holistic & conducive eco-system in the higher education sector. Further, she stressed upon fostering a favourable environment for both faculty & researchers in all education institutions as it represents the high-quality Indian higher education system.
Dr. K Sanjay Murthy, Secretary, Department of Higher Education, Government of India stressed upon the accreditation of Higher Education Institutions because it helps maintain the quality standard of HEIs and certifies that industries can select the scholars blindly from these institutions.
India has more than half lakhs of HEIs but only around 1 thousand institutions have the accreditation from the accreditation councils.
However, a jump is seen in this context, and a few state governments are committed to increase the number of accredited institutions in a very short period, he added.
Dr. Murthy advocated to develop a strong faculty pool and to make a partnership between higher education institutions, government and the industry to improve research and innovation outcomes.
Further, he appreciated the contribution of ICT Academy to provide mentorship for faculty members of HEIs using industry experts in pursuit of excellence under the ministry.
Additionally, he spoke that New Education Policy 2020 has liberalised the HEIs to work on advancement and focussed upon better education to the every students of our nation.
Dr Murthy has ended his speech by saying that we can be leverage the further benefit of global south.
Dr. Vidya Yeravdekar, Chairperson, FICCI Higher Education Committee & Pro-Chancellor, Symbiosis International University discussed the use of Academic Bank of Credit (ABC) by the Indian universities and expressed her optimism about the transformative era for students under the NEP 2020.
Also she believed that “Students immersed in multidisciplinary learning are empowered with tremendous flexibility through the academic bank of credit, and this has contributed to creating significant educational possibilities both for our students and institutions,” in her address.
Dr. Rajan Saxena, (Advisor, FICCI Higher Education Committee, Ex-Vice Chancellor, Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies, Maharashtra & A renowned Indian Management Expert) said, NEP-2020 is a landmark transformative initiative of the government to develop higher education system and create a global learning environment for students in India. Also he suggested developing a futuristic HE landscape by focusing on 5-pillar strategic framework Student centricity, Research & innovation, Faculty development, International mobility and Digital learning.
Prof. (Dr.) Souvik Bhattacharyy (Co-Chairperson, FICCI Higher Education Committee) have stressed upon that how lack of quality research students leading to faculty shortage & poor industry-institute collaborations for technological advancement leads to unskilled manpower to the industry.
The summit came to an end with the vote of thanks followed by visit of EduTech exhibition and networking lunch.
