Educational Visit to CSIR - NPL Open Day
30th September 2019
Dronacharya Group of Institutions organized a visit to the National Physical Laboratory (NPL), New Delhi, on the occasion of CSIR Foundation Day, on 30th September 2019. 45 first-year students from the ECE, ME, and EEE Departments participated in the visit, accompanied by Dr. Pallavi Verma, the visit coordinator. The purpose of the visit was to provide students with an opportunity to experience firsthand the ongoing scientific and technological research conducted at NPL.
CSIR-NPL is India's National Metrology Institute and one of the leading science and research laboratories in the country. Each year, on 30th September, NPL celebrates its Foundation Day by inviting students from schools and colleges to explore its advanced experimental facilities and various research domains.
During the visit, students first explored the superconductor laboratory, where they learned about the phenomenon of superconductivity and witnessed a practical demonstration of the Meissner effect. They also observed the equipment used to determine the electrical and thermal properties of superconductors. The group then proceeded to the Raman Spectroscopy Lab, where they gained insights into its applications, including its use in the medical field. In the Sound Transmission Lab, students experienced rooms designed for complete reflection and absorption and learned techniques related to sound transmission. To conclude the visit, students watched a film highlighting NPL’s achievements, followed by refreshments provided by the NPL authorities.
The visit proved to be highly informative and enriching, offering the students a deeper understanding of the scientific advancements taking place in the country. The hands-on demonstrations and exposure to real-world applications of scientific principles sparked excitement and curiosity among the students, making the experience both educational and inspiring.
