Hands on Workshop on Inside JAVA
17th & 19th November 2016
A hands on workshop on Inside JAVA was organized by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida under the aegis of CSI Student Chapter on 17th and 19th November, 2016. Key Speaker of the workshop was Ms. Sunita Tiwari, Research Scholar at IIT Delhi.
The objective of the workshop was to introduce final and pre-final year students to an industry acknowledged platform independent, object oriented programming language JAVA. The idea was to make them proficient in frequently asked interview questions and make them comfortable in developing java applications.
Day 1: 17th November 2016
Ms. Sunita Tiwari started the session with the Introduction to Java and Language Primitives, Objects, Classes and Polymorphism. Her focus was to make the students understand the basic concepts. She explained about objects which are an instance of a particular class or subclass with the class's own methods or procedures and data variables. Important concept about class was discussed, which is a template for creating different objects which defines its properties and behaviors.
Important concepts of Core Java like Inheritance, Abstract Classes, Interfaces and Packages were also discussed. Ms. Tiwari explained Inheritance in Java and abstract classes are classes. She gave a brief about package which is a namespace that organizes a set of related classes and interfaces.
Day 2: 19th November 2016
Ms. Sunita Tiwari started the second day with the explanation of the concepts of Multithreading, Constructors and Exception Handling. She explained the concept of constructor in Java and exception Handling. Usage of try, catch, finally and throw were discussed.
The next session was dedicated to GUI Programming and Event Handling (AWT & Swing). Ms. Tiwari elaborated Abstract Window Toolkit (AWT) and Swing. Practical sessions were held on all the concepts in which students execute the programs.
The workshop ended with memento presentation to Ms. Sunita Tiwari by Prof. (Dr.) S K Bagga, Director. A Vote of Thanks was proposed by Ms. Sheetal Saigal, coordinator of the workshop.
