Guest Lecture On
Signals & Systems
1st September 2016
A Guest lecture on “Signals and Systems” was organized by IEEE Student Branch and Department of ECE, Dronacharya Group of Institutions Greater Noida on 1st September 2016 for the students of ECE and EEE. Prof. (Dr.) S. D. Joshi, Head of Department-Electrical Engineering from IIT Delhi was Resource Person of this lecture.
The session started with the welcome of Prof. Joshi by Prof. (Dr.) S. K. Bagga, Director, DGI Greater Noida. Prof. Bagga addressed the students and highlighted the importance of the subject. He instructed the students to attend the lecture with sincerity and reap maximum advantage from lecture.
Prof. Joshi started his lecture with the introduction of Signals & Systems and its application in Signal Processing, Communications, Control Systems etc. He also discussed the classifications of signals on the basis of Continuous & Discrete, Even & Odd Signal, Periodic & Non-periodic etc. He then explained the time period and frequency of periodic signal and periodicity of discrete signal.
In addition to above, he discussed about basic signals like impulse, unit step, ramp, exponential, sinusoidal signal, etc. He gave detail of Periodicity, Causality, Stability, Reciprocal System, Time Invariant System and Linear System. He also emphasized on Finite Impulse Response Filter and Infinite Impulse Response Filter. He said that these filters are used in communication due to their improved frequency response in comparison to LCR filters. The digital filter does not have the aging problem.
After the lecture, Prof. S. K. Bagga presented memento to Prof. Joshi. Vinod Kumar, HOD-ECE thanked Prof. Joshi for sharing his rich experience in the field of Digital Signal Processing, Statistical Signal Processing, Image Processing and Group Theoretical Approach to Signal/Image Processing. Faculty members and students of ECE and EEE branch of DGI, Greater Noida attended the lecture.
It was an enlightening session as he shared real life experiences, it was a learning and interactive session for the students where he answered the queries put up by the students to their full satisfaction.
