INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP ON
AMATEUR RADIO COMMUNICATION & COMPUTING IN EDUCATIONAL ENVIRONMENT
14th & 15th SEPTEMBER 2016
An International Workshop on "Amateur Radio Communication & Computing in Educational Environment" was organized by ABES Engineering College, Ghaziabad on 14th & 15th September 2016. The workshop was aimed at providing knowledge in the area of Amateur Radio Communication and Amateur Radio Community. Mr. Nitin Kumar, Assistant Professor (ECE) along with six B. Tech (ECE) students 1. Aditi Biswas, 2. Deepak Kumar, 3. Madhvi Priya, 4. Raj Kumar Singh, 5. Shweta Sharma and 6.Siddhant Bansal from Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida attended the workshop.
Dr. Miroslav Skoric from University of Novi Sad, Serbia (ACM & IEEE Section Austria) and Dr. Sandeep Baruah,Scientist-E, Vigyan Prasar, Department of Science & Technology, Govt. of India were the invited speakers for the event.
Day 1: 14th September 2016
The inauguration of the workshop started with the welcome address by Prof. (Dr.) P. C. Vashist, HOD - IT, ABES followed by the introductory lecture from Dr. M.K. Jha, Director, ABES, Dr. S. S. Tyagi (Guest of Honor) and Dr. M. K. Soni (Chief Guest) on the Amateur Radio and its importance.
Workshop started with the introduction of Amateur Radio by Dr. Miroslav Skoric. He explained the Packet Radio System, which is the simplest way of interconnecting two (or more) computers - by using the amateur radio infrastructure and avoiding any commercial service. He explained Amateur Radio Relay, HF (14Mz), VHF (144 MHz) and UDF (432 Mz) Band for amateur radio communication. He also demonstrated the satellite tracking through GPREDICT software.
Dr. Sandeep Baruah gave detail of HAM, Morse Code and Armature Operator License Exam.
Day 2: 15th September 2016
Dr. Miroslav Skoric discussed various open source software available for packet radio. He said that DOSFBB, WinFBB, LinuxFBB, Xrouter, JNOS, sysop etc. are some tools which can run on DOS, MS Windows and Linux Operating System.He also explained various antennas and their mounting for amateur radio.
Dr. Sandeep Baruah demonstrated a wire type antenna for amateur radio. The session ended with a quiz in which students actively participated.
The workshop ended with Vote of Thanks delivered by Dr. M.K. Jha and certifictaes distribution.
The workshop was very educative and informative. The participants got an exposure of Amateur Radio Communication. The knowledge gained from this workshop will help participants start their Amateur Radio Station and become part of Amateur Radio Society.
