Innovation Day

Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida celebrated Innovation Day on 15th October 2018, to mark the 87th Birth Anniversary of Former President of India and renowned Missile Scientist, Dr. Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam. The event was organized by DGI-MHRD Innovation Club.
The event started with garlanding of portrait of Dr. Kalam by Prof. (Dr.) Ashish Soti, Honorable Director, DGI and Prof. B. L. Kaul, Honorable Registrar, DGI.
Prof. Soti in his welcome address said that man like Dr. Kalam walks on the earth once in a millennia. He added that there is lot to learn from Dr. Kalam's life. He said that Dr. Kalam belonged to a humble background and became a remarkable scientist all because of his sheer determination and hard work. Prof. Soti also lauded Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam Technical University's initiative to celebrate the birth anniversary of Dr. Kalam.
Prof. Kaul in his address said that Dr. Kalam's way of conduct was exemplary and must be followed by all, especially the young generation. This, he said, would help them achieve greater heights in their life. Sharing some of the motivating perspective from Dr. Kalam's life, he said being from a humble background, Dr. Kalam had to struggle a lot in his initial days. He had to sell newspapers to sustain livelihood but no such challenge could hold him back from succeeding in his life. His sheer passion, hard work and persistence led him to a marvelous career as scientist and a run at the President's office. He is the man behind successful launch of Rohini Satellite, triumphant testing of Agni and Prithvi Missiles and India's rise as a nuclear state with Pokhran nuclear tests. He received India's highest civilian award Bharat Ratna from the President of India and eventually became the 11th President of India.
DGI students remembered the legacy of Dr. Kalam through Story Telling, Video and Oral Presentations. They recounted Dr. Kalam's quotations and discussed his vision for India. They all could not agree more to Dr. Kalam's words of wisdom and pledged to learn from his life. They were highly encouraged by the achievements of 'The Missile Man' and 'The People's President'.
In the last leg of the event a Technical Quiz was also held in this event. The participants battled through three rounds in the quiz. In Round One: Kalam-O-Pedia, questions on Dr. Kalam's life, achievements, scientific career, presidentship, quotations, and vision were asked. In Round Two: Back-to-School, questions on famous Indian scientists and their achievements were asked. And finally in Round Three: Pictionary, participants had to apply their lateral and cognitive thinking to solve some picture puzzles.
At the end of the competition the following participants were adjudged the winners:
- 1st : Team Mechanical - Bishal Kr. Shahani (V Sem) and Suhas Choudhary Nigam (III Sem)
- 2nd: Team APS - Shivani Dwivedi (CSE I Sem) and Laxita Adhikari (CSE I Sem)
- 3rd: Team CSE - Nipun Navadia (V Sem) and Manish Sharma ( V Sem)
Prof. Soti and Prof. Kaul appreciated the efforts put by DGI-MHRD Innovation Club in celebrating the life of Dr. Kalam.
