Presentation and demonstration of innovation for
“3rd Innovation Scholars In-Residence Program”
IIM Ahmedabad 29th November-2015
Presentation and demonstration of innovation was organized at IIM, Ahmedabad on 29th November 2015 in the run-up for the “3rd Innovation Scholar’s In-Residence Program” organized by Rashtrapati Bhavan to encourage the creative and innovative potential of students. Mr. Gaurav Siwal, Assistant Professor, DGI, Greater Noida accompanied four students Shiva Chauhan, Rohit Karotia, Ritesh Rai and Pradeep Kumar Prasad (VII Sem) from B.Tech Mechanical Engineering to present their project “Efficient Mechanical Rickshaw”.
The project entered in the second stage after clearing the first screening stage successfully and this provided an opportunity to students for presenting their project with technical details and video. The concept of the project was based on the fact that the starting torque required in the beginning is very high when the rickshaw is loaded. To supplement the requirement of this high starting torque the students have used spiral springs in the rickshaw. These spiral springs store energy when the pedals are rotated in reverse direction and release the stored energy when required. Ratchet control mechanism is used to maintain the smooth flow of stored energy to the rear axle of the rickshaw.
Many innovative projects from various fields like Agriculture, Biomedical, Electrical, Textile industry and Mechanical Engineering were presented by the participants from different regions of the country.
The Jury appreciated the projects presented by the students and also directed them for certain improvements in their projects. The results are expected to be declared by the end of December 2015. Those being declared the winners will be provided an opportunity to undergo an internship for a month at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
