5th - 14th November 2025
DGI student, Srilahari Karunakar Upadrista participated in the 10-day Pre-Republic Day (Pre-RD) Camp held at ITM University, Gwalior from 5th -14th November 2025. This prestigious camp brought together 200 NSS volunteers from the states of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Uttarakhand. The primary purpose of the camp was to select 40 outstanding volunteers for the Republic Day Camp. Representing Dronacharya Group of Institutions at such a national-level platform marked a significant accomplishment for the participant.
The camp schedule was designed to instil discipline, physical endurance, and leadership qualities. Each day began early, with a wake-up call between 4:00 and 5:00 AM. Volunteers proceeded to the parade ground while singing geet or bhajans, creating a sense of unity. After a state-wise roll call, the morning continued with physical training that included PT exercises, jogging, yoga, and the NSS geet. Following breakfast, parade practice took place until late morning, focusing on precision and coordination. Afternoon sessions were dedicated to NSS awareness, leadership discussions, and community service topics, while evening hours were spent in additional parade practice. Each day ended with cultural performances that showcased the rich diversity of the participating states.
Special activities added further value to the camp experience. All volunteers visited ITM University to witness the Chitrakoot program, which offered impressive cultural and artistic insights. A sightseeing trip to Gwalior city was also organized, allowing participants to explore historical and cultural landmarks and build stronger bonds with one another.
The selection process was rigorous and comprehensive. Over two days, volunteers appeared for parade and cultural examinations. On the first day, volunteers numbered 1 to 100 undertook parade tests, while volunteers 101 to 200 participated in cultural assessments. Roles were reversed on the second day. These exams, conducted outdoors under strong sunlight, demanded focus and resilience. Each participant also attended an individual interview that assessed understanding of NSS objectives, leadership potential, and commitment to community service.
Throughout the camp, the participant gained valuable skills and exposure. The intensive training enhanced physical fitness, discipline, and accuracy in parade drills. The awareness sessions deepened knowledge of NSS principles, social responsibility, and volunteerism. Interaction with volunteers from multiple states improved communication abilities and encouraged cultural appreciation. The cultural activities—featuring tribal rituals, folk songs, traditional dances, and regional art forms—further enriched the overall experience. Yoga sessions, hydration, and scheduled breaks helped maintain stamina and performance. Coordinating with volunteers from diverse backgrounds strengthened patience, teamwork, and leadership qualities.
In conclusion, the 10-day Pre-RD Camp at ITM University, Gwalior, proved to be an enriching and rigorous program designed to prepare NSS volunteers for national representation at the Republic Day Camp. The experience equipped participants with essential skills in discipline, leadership, teamwork, and cultural understanding.
