DELNET organized a one day workshop on DELNET Discovery Services, Open source Software & Communication Skill for LIS Professionals on 4th March 2017 in collaboration with the Integrated Academy of Management and Technology (INMANTEC), Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. Ms. Shweta Rani, Assistant Librarian Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida attended the workshop.
The workshop was inaugurated by Chief Guest Dr. Pankaj Gupta - Director - INMANTEC, Ghaziabad in the presence ofDr. H. K. Kaul - Director - DELNET, Dr. Sangeeta Kaul - Network Manager - DELNET and Dr. Rajesh Kumar - Librarian - INMANTEC, Ghaziabad.
Dr. H. K. Kaul made a presentation on Managing Quality Resources & Services: New Trends & Technologies, whichcovered library infrastructure, librarian control, control of knowledge, software, control of technology, etc.
Dr. Sangeeta Kaul made a brief presentation on DELNET (Developing Library Network). She said that DELNET’s objective is sharing of resources among the libraries by developing a network of libraries, by collecting, storing and disseminating information and by offering computerized services to the users. DELNET have more than 5778 member worldwide and Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Gr. Noida is one them. Dr. Kaul said that DELNET has launched a new discovery portal on January 10, 2017 for member libraries. Through this portal, users can access research articles, thesis, books, etc.
Dr. Kaul also explained the Open Source Library Software Koha. She said that Koha is the first open-source Integrated Library System (ILS) in use worldwide and this is the world’s first free and open source library system. DELNET has launched its first library software DELPLUS 2.0, which is multi-user library application and library management software. The focus of this software is to modernize and network the libraries across India. Some other software like Drupal Joomla, DSpace (Institutional Repository), Green stone for e-printing, Coral (Electronics Resource Management Systems), DuFTs (For Articles), Viper (anti Plagiarism Scanner), Big Blue Button (Web Conference), Web Huddle (Institution Meeting), Audacity (audio editor & recorder) were also explained.
Mr. Kaushal - Network Junior Assistant of DELNET explained the DELPLUS Software. He said that it is designed and developed exclusively to work under all kinds of libraries and is also Free up gradation, Follows internationally recommended standards and formats such as MARC 21 and is best for small and medium size libraries which have collections of around one lakh holdings.
The workshop ended with the Certificate distribution and vote of thanks by Dr. Rajesh Kumar - Coordinator, DELNET Workshop.
