Oracle Academy Student Day

Oracle Academy Student Day, a live webcast launched by Oracle was organized at Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida on 24th March 2017. 4th, 6th and 8th semester students along with Coordinators Ms. Sheetal Saigal - Assistant Professor - CSE and Ms. Gargi Amoli - Assistant Professor - IT participated in the event. The objective of the event was to update students with the popular trends in Computer Science so that they can keep pace with the current technologies.
Oracle Academy webcasted a number of technical and career related sessions. Each session was of thirty minutes to forty five minutes in duration. Here, at Dronacharya Group of Institutions, the first session that was opted for was The Engineer s Path: Choose Your Own Adventure by Ms Leor Chechik (Principal Applications Engineer, Oracle). She initiated the session with a talk on the importance of being upto-date on the current trends and domain. She then gave tips for clearing an interview. She stated that Study - Up and Practice is the key to clearing an interview. She emphasized on the acceptance and adaption of feedback of an interview for self - improvement. Then there was a discussion on work etiquettes and ethics. She stated that sometimes one needs to unlearn the things they have learnt in school. She quoted, Real programmer breaks rules . She concluded her presentation with the discussion on setting priorities in life. She quoted, Life is unexpected. Priorities change.
The session on The Engineer s Path was followed by the session on Database in the Cloud hosted by Ravi Shankar Settigunte (Senior Director, Database Server Technologies, Oracle). He initiated the session with the brief introduction to Cloud. He talked about the relevance of Cloud in Database. He explained the structure of an engineered database. There was a discussion on the focus areas of cloud database. He briefed about Runtime Load Balancing. He discussed various problem samples in the security domains, cloud platform and machine learning. He concluded the session with a discussion on the transformational technologies like In - Memory Database, Software in Silicon, JSON Integrated with SQL, Container Databases, etc.
The next presentation was on Differentiating U and I by Mr Michael Tran, (Web Developer, Oracle). The presentation started with a brief introduction to animation. He talked about Code Pen. There was a discussion on the current trends in Front End Technologies. He described various Front End Technologies. The event continued with a presentation was on Oracle JET: Free & Open Source JavaScript Toolkit by Geertjan Wielenga (Product Manager, Oracle). He initiated his presentation with discussion on the importance of Open Source. He stated that Open Source is the modern approach to development. Developers enjoy working in open source environments, while organizations are not locked - in to their vendors. He said that everything in Oracle Jet is open source. He stated the specifications of Oracle Dashboard. There was a discussion on Oracle Data Visualization Cloud Service. Mr. Wielenga concluded the presentation by describing few products related to Oracle JET.
Ms. Perside Foster (Technical Consultant, Oracle HCM Cloud) gave a presentation on Internet of Things . Her presentation started with an introduction to IOT. She introduced the participants with the basic methodology of IOT. She discussed the applications of Internet of Things. She stated that IOT is immensely important. Internet of Things represents the next evolution of the Internet, taking a huge leap in its ability to gather, analyse, and distribute data that we can turn into information, knowledge, and, ultimately, wisdom. She further briefed the participants on how to build IOT based products and services. She described few physical tools that are required for creating an IOT-based product. She gave a gist of Arduino Programming.
The event focussed on increasing the capacity of innovation of the students. The students got inspired to work on the tools and platforms developed by Oracle. Students often look for ways to differentiate themselves from their competition as well as a have a way to prove their skills. The experts from Oracle expanded the awareness of the students in various areas like Cloud Computing, Internet of Things, Front End Technologies, etc. The webcasts have significantly enhanced the IT skills of the students there by opening careers doors for them in various domain of Information Technology.
