QEEE Session on Solar DC
On
10th, 17th and 27th March 2017
QEEE Session on “Solar DC” was organized by IIT, Madras under D2S (Direct to Student) Program at Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida on 10th, 17th and 27th March 2017. Prof. Ashok Jhunjhunwala. (Professor, EE, IIT Madras) was the Resource Person and Mr. Anoop Mishra (Lecturer, EEE, DGI Greater Noida) was the Local Faculty Coordinator of these sessions. Students of EEE 8th Semester attended the session.
Day 1: 10th March 2017
Prof. Ashok Jhunjhunwala started his lecture with basic advantage of DC over AC power. He defined the photo voltaic cell and conversion of dc to ac circuit and explained different types of solar panel. Further he discussed about Batteries: He explainedhow direct DC power from solar PV cell can be used. He further explained how the dc power costs lesser as compared to the ac power. In his lecture he gave details of the efficiency and other benefits of dc over ac power. He designed some circuits for dc power.
Day 2: 17th March 2017
Prof. Ashok Jhunjhunwala started his lecture by explaining solar cell. He further explained the working principal of photovoltaic cell. He designed a circuit for the Maximum Power Point (MPP). He said that by using MPP circuit we can obtain maximum power through the solar cell. He further explained the Mismath effects, its causes and non - ideal operating properties.
Day 3: 27th March 2017
The third and last session of this QEEE Program started with the explanation of battery performance parameters. Prof. Jhunjhunwala discussed battery capacity and its charging and discharging principals. He said that battery condition can be checked from its rate of Charge / Discharge, State of Charge (SOC) and Depth of Charge (DOC). The program came to an end at 12:00 PM.
Keeping in mind the benefits of the students, one quiz and one proctored quiz was given to the students.
This QEEE session was beneficial for the students and will add in-depth knowledge and help them to solve conceptual questions related to the topic.
