PPP MODEL FOR WASTE TO WORTH PROJECTS

Confederation of Indian Industry organized an International conference on “PPP Model for Waste to Worth” on 30th November 2017 at The Grand, New Delhi. The objective of the conference was to create awareness about sustainable solid waste management initiatives and to avoid practice for landfill sites. Conference also aimed to promote the reuse and recycle of disposal waste.
The event began with the floral welcome of Mr. Hardeep Singh Puri, Hon’ble Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs and Mr. Mahesh Babu (Co-chair, CII Task Force on Waste to Worth).
Mr. Vinod Kumar Jindal (joint Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs) and Dr. Bindu Dey (Secretary, Technology Development Board) addressed the gathering during the inaugural function.
During her key note address on “Circular Sanitation Economy”, Ms. Cheryl Hicks, Executive Director, Toilet Board Coalition, Switzerland said that they have created a global platform for partnership.
Chief Guest Mr. Puri stressed upon Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s flagship cleanliness drive “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan”. He talked about the initiatives taken by the Central Government towards cleanliness by giving star rating to all cities of India on different cleanliness parameters. He also focused on solid waste management and urged all the global leaders in the gathering to make right use of the platform and give some concrete results on how wings can be given to “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan” program.
There were presentations by international delegates who talked about their respective country’s initiatives in solid waste management. They also emphasized on how they are converting their waste into useful energy with the help of different mechanism.

- Mr. Robert Jans, Director, Ekolog (Polish Perspective),
- Mr. Osten Ekengren, Executive Vice President, IVL Svenska Miljoinstitutet (Swedish Perspective),
- Mr. Fabian Weingart, Director, TII India (German Perspective).
Mr. Vinay Maheshwari (President, JBM Ltd), Mr. Sundeep Kumar (Sr. Vice President, IL&FS Environmental Infrastructure& Services) and Mr. Ulhas Parlikar (Head & Director, Geocycle India-ACC) emphasised on waste generation rate and its composition which is in the form of food, garden, paper, wood, textiles, nappies, plastics etc.
