"Universal Human Values and Professional Ethics" - Introductory
2nd - 4th June 2023
A three-day Faculty Development Program (FDP-2023) was conducted at Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida, from 2nd – 4th June, 2023 under the aegis of the Value Education Cell, All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).
Dr. Ritu Soryan (Dean, Student’s Welfare, DGI) coordinated the Faculty Development Program as a Local Program Coordinator (LPC). 78 participants from various institutes affiliated with AKTU, Lucknow participated in the FDP.
The main goal of the Faculty Development Program was to identify and emphasize the problems related to happiness, welfare, aspirations, goals, and success in an individual's life, as well as the challenges faced by individuals, families, society, and the environment. As an outcome, the strategies to combat these issues were thoroughly explored during the sessions delivered in the FDP.
Prof. N.K. Sharma, the key resource person and facilitator, along with Dr. Niyati Garg, co-facilitator, and Dr. Manorama Sharma, observer for the Faculty Development Program were the renowned authorities in the field of training Human Values.
Day 1: 2nd June, 2023
During Day 1 of the FDP, following topics were discussed:
(i) Holistic development and Role of Education
(ii) Self-exploration, Happiness, Prosperity
(iii) Harmony in Human Being, Story of Stuff
(iv) Harmony in the Self, Discussion
The programme was inaugurated at FDP hall on 04th June, 2023 by Chief Guest of the occasion Prof. (Dr.) Ramesh Unnikrishnan ( Adviser –II, Training and Learning Bureau, AICTE) and Guest of Honor Prof. (Dr.) Sunil Luthra (Director, Training and Learning Bureau, AICTE) in the presence of Prof. (Dr.) Seema Shukla (Director, DGI), Prof. (Dr.) S.K. Srivastava (Registrar), Prof. Naveen Kumar Sharma (Resource Person from AKTU for the FDP) and Dr. Niyati Garg (Co-facilitator) for the Faculty Development Program, and Dr. Manorama Sharma (Observer, AICTE.)
The inaugural session was also graced with the presence of all faculties of Dronacharya Group of Institutions.
Prof. (Dr.) Seema Shukla delivered the welcome address and shared her views with the faculty participants. She explained that if the faculty wants to develop themselves and their students, then attending such FDP’s would enhance their teaching concepts. She further added that programs like this help to improve the performance of faculty in teaching UHVPE and highlighted the importance and objectives of organizing regular FDP’s.
Dr. Ritu Soryan, Local Program Coordinator delivered the keynote address and emphasized the importance of UHVPE in routine life. Dr. Soryan deliberated upon the concept of Universal Human Values and Professional Ethics and its application in life.
Prof. (Dr.) Ramesh Unnikrishnan blessed the audience with his golden words and sensitized all participants to enhance quality in teaching. Prof. (Dr.) Sunil Luthra shared his views on continual application of the workshop and hoped that the three days learning will transcend to the rest of lives of the participants. He further added that the management and HOD’s must be of such a nature that they prove to be role models for others.
He said that the young minds should be helped in discovering the humanity in them. The inaugural ceremony was anchored by Dr. Mamta Bhardwaj, (Faculty at DGI).
The inauguration program ended with the vote of thanks by Dr. Ritu Soryan, Local Program Coordinator, (LPC).
The First session was started by Prof. N.K. Sharma with the concept of UHVPE. He shared few important aspects of life to be considered while understanding UHVPE. He weaved his knowledge in the session with a power packed Power Point Presentation and various real life examples along with short stories. The need of self-exploration and self-investigation within oneself was considered and the participants were smoothly guided through the processes for these and how to practice them in daily life.
Dr. Niyati Garg took lecture on understanding the needs of "I" and “Body.” Her expertise in the subject matter and engaging delivery style captivated the audience, creating an atmosphere of curiosity and eagerness to delve deeper into the topic.
Day 2: 3rd June, 2023
During Day 2 of the FDP, following topics were discussed:
(i) Recap of Day 1, Prosperity-Health
(ii) Harmony in the Family – Trust
(iii) Trust contd., Harmony in the Family – Respect 1
(iv) Harmony in the Family – Respect 2, Discussion
During the second day session, resource person Prof. N.K. Sharma started the discussion with very simplified concept of Harmony in the family. He explained the concept with various real life examples along with short stories. His deliberations helped to make the subject well comprehensible and created interest amongst the participants. He talked about Trust and respect as well.
The day's discussion focused on the significance of trust and respect in establishing a strong foundation for harmonious relationships. Prof. Sharma's expertise and captivating presentation style left a lasting impact on the participants, fostering an atmosphere of enthusiasm and eagerness to explore the subject matter. Prof. Sharma began the session by presenting a simplified and accessible understanding of harmony within the family. He emphasized that harmony is not merely the absence of conflict, but rather a state of balance, cooperation, and mutual understanding among family members. Prof. Sharma effectively conveyed complex concepts, making them easily comprehensible for the participants. The anecdotes served as relatable instances that highlighted the practical application of trust and respect within the family setting. Participants found these examples impactful, as they resonated with their own experiences.
Prof. Sharma's deliberations were instrumental in generating interest and fostering comprehension among the participants. His ability to break down intricate ideas into simpler terms, combined with his engaging storytelling approach, captivated the audience and encouraged active participation. Attendees eagerly shared their perspectives, asked questions, and sought clarifications; thereby an interactive and collaborative learning environment was created.
The second day of the workshop, led by Prof. N.K. Sharma, proved to be an enriching and thought-provoking experience for all participants.
Day 3: 4th June, 2023
During Day 3 of the FDP, following topics were discussed:
(i) Trust, Respect contd., Harmony in the Family- Other Feelings briefly
(ii) Harmony in Society/ Nature
(iii) Harmony in Existence & Sum Up
(iv) Participants’ Self-evaluation
On the third day of the programme, the esteemed speakers Dr. Sharma and Dr. Niyati Garg continued to enlighten the participants with their insightful lectures. Dr. Sharma began the day's session by exploring the concept of harmony within the family, accompanied by compelling real-life examples. Later, Dr. Niyati Garg maintained the continuity by discussing the interconnectedness of society and nature. The speakers' adept use of relatable examples enabled participants to grasp the significance of fostering harmony within their families and recognizing their responsibilities towards society and the environment.
The fourth and final session of the Faculty Development Program was Participants' Self-Evaluation. The session involved participants' self-evaluation process, where attendees shared their views and thoughts on the three days of learning.
The Faculty Development Program made a profound impact on the participants and left a deep and positive impression on them.
Participants expressed their commitment to applying the knowledge gained during the Faculty Development Program (FDP) in their own teaching. They eagerly anticipated the opportunity to share everything they learned with the students.
Overall, the participants were enthusiastic about implementing their newfound knowledge and expressed high satisfaction with the quality, practicality, and coordination of the FDP.
During the three days session, the participants of the programme focused upon exploring themselves. The participants also realized that technical education without study of human values could generate more problems than solutions. The participants also understood that lack of understanding of human values is the root cause of all problems and any sustained solution could emerge only through understanding of human values and value based living. Any solution brought out through fear, temptation or dogma will not be sustained. The participants also understood that a tangible change in the thinking of students/ youth, in terms of their vision about happiness and prosperity, clarity about life-goals, improvement in human relationships, self-confidence, commitment to learning, feeling more responsible towards the profession is also mandatory in addition to technical education in order to excel.
