Industrial Visit toWPIL Ltd., Ghaziabad

An industrial visit to WPIL Ltd., Ghaziabad was organized by Department of Mechanical Engineering, DGI Greater Noida under the ages of ISTE Student Chapter, DGI Greater Noida for B.Tech 2nd year students on 20th April 2018. Twenty three students along with faculty member Mr. Brijesh Verma visited the industry to acquire knowledge on modern methods used in a foundry industry.
DGI Team reached WPIL Ltd at 11:00 AM and were welcomed by Mr. Arun Kumar (Sr. Manager, Foundry) and Mr. Ved Prakash Rastogi (Senior Foundry Consultant) Mr. Kumar gave an introduction about industry and informed that WPIL was established in 1952 as Johnston Pumps India Ltd and became Worthington Pump India in 1983. WPIL Ghaziabad plant was established in 1968. Presently it is a leading manufacturing industry which deals in designing, developing, manufacturing and installation of pumps and pumping systems.
For the plant visit students were divided in three groups which were headed by Mr. Arun Kumar, Mr. Ashok Kumar Rai (Foundry Assistant) and Mr. Deepak Sharma( Foundry Assistant). They guided the students to various sections of Foundry Shop which which were :
Pattern Making, Sand Preparation, Mold Preparation, Melting and Pouring, Cleaning of Casting and Heat Treatment section.
During the visit, students learnt about Pneumatic powered Shot blasting and heat treatment. They also visited inspection room where various testing equipment such as Spectrography and UTM were being used to check the quality of castings and testing the strength of sand mold.
Mr. V P Rastogi and Mr. Arun Kumar had an interactive session with the students at the end of their visit. They explained them the intricate details of foundry and also discussed latest trends being used in castings to minimize machining cost. Mr. Arun Kumar suggested students to make it their habit to read standard books of their concerned subjects.
Students enjoyed and gained practical knowledge from the industrial visit.
