MHRD-AICTE Workshop on Social Media- Uses & Effect

In recognition of the importance of social media for National institutions, All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) in association with Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), GoI, organised a Workshop on Social Media - Uses & Effect on 10th April 2018 at AICTE, New Delhi.
B. Tech 2nd Year students, Dravid Nagi and Swati Sethi along with faculty Ms. Aditi Arora, Assistant Professor in Computer Science and Engineering Department Dronacharya Group of Institution, Greater Noida attended the workshop.
The workshop started with the lighting of lamp by the dignitaries from MHRD, UGC and AICTE.
Dr. R Subramanyam, Honourable Secretary of Higher Education stressed upon improving the overall management of the Indian institutions. He suggested that the technology has evolved at a very fast pace and it can provides solution to many problems in order to better manage our institutions. He further added that so much of good work is happening but not everything gets reflected in the press or the press sometimes reports it in a very distorted manner, so it is necessary for us to create a network of all the social media cells in every institutions so that a good work done in one institution can be spread across in a better way to others.
Dr. Anil Swaroop, MoS (School Education & Literacy) said that one thing that we should not do while interacting with social media is to claim something which we aren’t. He advised all to be blunt about the facts as they stand and never ever play with facts. Social media can be a great instrument to create aspirations and one can recognise people for their good work he added.
Dr. Satyapal Singh, Honourable Minister of State (MHRD) said that social media has become a very powerful tool today for uniting educational institutions to spread good work across other educational institutes. This potential must be harnessed to promote and spread valuable information. He was op the opinion that knowledge must be expressed, shared and expanded. He also laid emphasis on MOOCs courses.
Dr. Pankaj Mittal, Additional Secretary UGC explained about SWAYAM platform, developed by Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD).

Prof. Anil D Sahashrabudhe (Chairman AICTE) informed that in order to keep technical educational institutes updated and integrated AICTE has taken significant initiatives in the use of social media. With increasing number of followers on twitter and Facebook. He encouraged all to actively participate in Smart India Hackathon.
Shri Shashi Shekhar, CEO, Prasar Bharti advised that educational institutions should use social media in a very institutionalized way with standard operating procedures and best practices to deal with real crisis.
Shri Subho Sengupta, MHRD Official, discussed USHAHIDI, an international platform to collect, manage and analyze data.
The workshop ended with a vote of thanks followed by lunch.
