Workshop on Outcome Based Education

In continuation of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) mandates regarding accreditation by National Board of Accreditation (NBA), Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University Uttar Pradesh, organized a two days workshop on Outcome Based Education on 13th - 14th April 2018 at its Noida campus. The objective of the workshop was:
- Understand Outcome Based education & Accreditation
- To provide knowledge and skill on the latest outcome based systems of NBA and conduct Self-Assessment.
- To interpret requirements of NBA Accreditation Criteria and define PEOs/ POs and Evaluation Guidelines.
- To understand the different initiatives taken by Government of India for Quality Assurance in Technical and Higher Education.
124 Faculties from various colleges affiliated to A.K.T.U. participated in the workshop. Mr. Vinod Kumar (HOD-APS), Mr. Manoj Kumar Yadav (Assistant Professor- CSE Dept.) and Mr. Sonu Kumar (Assistant Professor - CIVIL Dept.) from Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida attended the workshop.
Day1: 13th April 2018
The session was inaugurated by Dr. Virendra Pathak, Director, U.P. Institute of Design. He welcomed the resource person Dr. J. P. Gupta, Member Secretory- AICTE and all the participants.
Sharing the overview of the workshop, Dr. Gupta gave an outline of NBA which was initially established by AICTE under section 10(u) of AICTE Act, in the year 1994, for periodic evaluations of technical institutions & programs according to specified norms and standards as recommended by AICTE Council.
Laying stress on Outcome Based Education, Dr. Pathak said that it involves framing of organized Program Education Objectives (PEOs), Program Outcomes (POs), Course Outcomes (COs), and ensuring assessment and attainment of these outcomes. He advised that all reputed Institutions should adopt and implement OBE through standard process to overcome various challenges. He suggested putting faculties in appropriate roles with proper utilization of their time in document preparation. This he said me be a solution to Non-uniform process practiced in establishing curricula and calculation of attainments at various outcome levels, Inadequacy of mapping between CO and PO, Overwhelming volume of data across batches and Complex data analysis to isolate problem areas, etc. He also discussed about the specialized parameters of NBA for Tier-1 (IITs, IISc, IIITs, IISER, NITs, Universities, Deemed to be university, Autonomous Institutes and Autonomous Universities) and Tier-2 (rest all) institutions.
Day: 14th April 2018
Dr. Gupta started the practice session on Rubric for major Project Evaluation for B.Tech., Comprehensive Viva-Voce and How to write Vision and Mission Statements. He delivered a lecture on Self-Assessment Report (SAR) and its criteria. He asked the participants to practice Program Specific Outcomes(PSOs),Course Outcomes(CO) its mapping with Program Outcome(PO), Attainment Process of Course Outcomes(Cos), Assessment of Program Outcomes( POs) & Program Specific Outcomes(PSOs).
During the valedictory session, Dr. Vineet Kansal, Dean, UG & Entrepreneurship, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University expressed his gratitude to the Resource Person for invaluable contribution in conducting the OBE Workshops. He also thanked the participants for the successful completion of the workshop.
The workshop ended with informal interactions.
