PACKAGING DESIGN COMPETITION
(ANTI COUNTERFEITING "REAL VERSUS FAKE")
AUTO EXPO 2016, IEML, GREATER NOIDA

An Anti - counterfeiting project competition themed "Real Versus Fake" was organized by SIAM (Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers) at Auto Expo 2016, IEML, Greater Noida on 5th Feb 2016. 34 students from Mechanical Engineering department of Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida along with their projects participated in the competition. Prof. D.V. Bhise, HOD(ME) and Mr. Gaurav Siwal, Asst. Prof (ME) accompanied the students.
About Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM)
SIAM is an important channel of communication for the Automobile Industry with the Government, National and International organisations. The Society works closely with all the concerned stake holders and actively participates in formulation of rules, regulations and policies related to the Automobile Industry.
SIAM also interacts with worldwide experts to assess the global trends and developments shaping the Automotive Industry. It has been actively pursuing issues like Frontier Technologies viz. Telematics: Promotion of Alternative Fuels including Hydrogen Energy for automotive use through cell vehicles and Harmonization of Safety and Emission Standards etc. SIAM provides a window to the Indian Automobile industry and aims to enhance exchanges and communication expand economics, trade and technical cooperation between the Automotive Industry and its international counterparts.
About the Competition
The design competition was meant for brainstorming and developing the ideas as well as concepts for Anti - counterfeiting of automobile components. Following nine Institutes with 350 students participated in the competition:

2. Apeejay Institute of Design, Greater Noida
3. JSS Engineering College, Noida
4. Jamia Millia Islamia University, Delhi
5. J D Institute of Fashion, Delhi
6. Amity University, Noida
7. Galgotias University, Greater Noida
8. AD The design Institute, Greater Noida
9. Just Design Institute, Delhi
The competition was divided into three categories:
1. Art
2. Fashion
3. Engineering
The jury comprised of following eminent members:
1. Mr. Yashpal Sachar : General Manager - Parts, HONDA Motor India Pvt. Ltd.
2. Mr. Saurav Rohilla : Deputy Director, SIAM
3. Mr. Deepangshu Dev Sarmah : Editor in Chief, AutoTech Review
In the first round 50 projects were displayed by the participating colleges, out of which 10 projects were shortlisted for the second round on the basis of their originality and genuineness. Out of these 10 projects, 2 following projects were from DGI:
1. Self Destructible Packaging Design for Anti - Counterfeiting by sealing with thread.
2. Cutting impression to avoid reuse of packaging.
During second round, projects were judged based on their social and economic viability. Finally the top three colleges were awarded.
The winning colleges were:
1. Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida
2. JSS Engineering College, Noida
3. Apeejay institute of Design, Greater Noida
The Project titled "Self Destructible Packaging Design for Anti-Counterfeiting" by DGI students Naveen Purohit, Rohit Kumar and Tapan Singh from VI Semester Mechanical Engineering won the award.
All the students were given participation certificates and winners were felicitated with gift vouchers.
