"Women Rock IT"

A seminar on "Women Rock IT" was organized by Shaheed Rajguru College of Applied Sciences for Women, Vasundhara Enclave, Delhi in collaboration with CISCO on 23rd February, 2016. The objective of the seminar was to create global environment that encourages girls and young women to consider careers in the field of information and communication technologies. Eminent women ICT professionals from companies, government agencies and academic institutions were invited to share their success stories and help girls and young women for better understanding the opportunities the ICT sector holds for their future. Ms. Sheetal Saigal, Assistant Professor (CSE) from Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida along with 24 students of B.Tech CSE - IV and CSE - VI semester attended the session.

The session started with a webinar by Ms. Ai Ching Gho, Co - Founder of Piktochart. She shared her motivating success story of creating the Piktochart App, which is used to create info graphics. Info graphics helps to present complex information easily. She suggested three steps to build an application, first validate it means make sure that somebody needs your app, second pay for it and learn coding on your own and finally to find a co - founder. Ms. Xania Wong CEO & Co - Founder of JobDoh shared her motivating success story of creating a JoDoh App in the second session. The application is very useful for employees and employers. The one tap application gives real time vacancies, instant feedback, progressive tracking, resume building, true meritocracy etc.
The third session started with the welcome address by Dr. Payal Mago, Principal of Shaheed Rajguru College of Applied Sciences for Women, Vasundhara Enclave, Delhi. She welcomed eminent guests and discussed two major issues for women in IT industry i.e. the number of women working in IT industry and opportunities for them to advance their careers. She said that the way of women working is unique and connection between diverse leadership and financial success is to be maintained. She highlighted the huge opportunities for women in Cyber Security, Data Analysis, Web Design, Server Management and Customer Relationship Management.
The speakers motivated the girls and young women and encouraged them for making informed choice regarding IT for their better future. They discussed various obstacles in women life, but suggested that women have to develop spirit and confidence in them and be passionate about what they do. Women have to draw a balance between personal & professional commitments and family demands. The speakers focused on three main points to be considered by every woman, Be Yourself, Be Proactive and Build a Network.
The session ended with a panel discussion by girls and young women working in various IT sectors.
