Workshop on “USSD-Based Mobile Application Development”

The Department of Computer Science & Engineering and Information Technology Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida organized a Workshop on “USSD-Based Mobile Applications” on 24th September 2015. The workshop was conducted by a team from U2opia Mobiles, Gurgaon. The team comprised of Mr. Saransh Bhardwaj,Community Manager, U2opia Mobile, Mr. Sandeep Rajdev, Senior Support Engineer, U2opia Mobile and Mr. Anil Sharma. Students and faculty members of Department of Computer Science and Engineering and Information Technology attended the workshop. The workshop was co-ordinated by Ms. Shalini Sharma, Assistant Professor, Department of Information Technology and Ms. Gargi Amoli, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science & Engineering.
The objective of the workshop was to introduce the students to the USSD technology and to demonstrate the development of mobile application on the USSD platform in order to prepare the students for the “Application Development”.
The event started with a presentation on USSD technology by Mr. Saransh Bhardwaj. He introduced his company U2opia Mobiles and stated the countries where the company’s applications are being used. Mr. Bhardwaj then explained the process of initiating USSD. He encouraged the students to take part in “Fonetwish Best Application Contest” which is being conducted by U2opia Mobiles. He explained the process of application development and gave ideas of different types of mobile applications that can be developed on the USSD platform like DTC bus route, world clock, healthcare, horoscope, etc.
The next part of the event included a presentation by Mr. Anil Sharma. He gave an introduction to JAVA Beans and their usage in mobile application development. He introduced the participants to the Fonetwish platform and demonstrated how applications can be developed on it. After the presentation, the students were asked to create an account in Fonetwish. Further, there was a small practice session in which students implemented their ideas of mobile applications on Fonetwish platform.
The event concluded with the presentation of mementoes to the U2opia Mobiles team by Prof. (Dr.) S.K. Bagga, Director, Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida.
