STC ON "EMBEDDED C PROGRAMMING OF MICROCONTROLLER"

2nd - 6th May 2016

Dronacharya Group of Institutions,Greater Noida in collaboration with NITTTR, Chandigarh conducted STC on"Embedded C Programming Of Microcontroller" under the National Mission on Education through ICT (NMEICT), MHRD, Govt. of India from 2nd - 6th May 2016. Ten faculty members from DGI-Greater Noida attended the STC.

The objective of the STC is to provide resources which help faculty to improve their performance in the classrooms and to achieve maximum effectiveness.

Day 1: 2nd May 2016

The event was inaugurated by Dr. Ritula Thakur, Assistant Professor, Electrical Engineering, NITTTR, Chandigarh. Dr. Thakur stated the objectives of the event and then requested the remote centre coordinators to introduce themselves and their chief guests Dr. Lini Mathew, Associate Professor, Electrical Engineering, NITTTR, Chandigarh gave a brief overview of the course and requested the participants to attend all the sessions punctually.

Dr. Thakur initiated her session with a presentation on "8051 Microcontroller Programming in C". She gave an introduction to microprocessor and microcontroller. She explained applications of microcontroller. She discussed the advantages and limitations of assembly languages. She gave an overview of writing C programs for microcontroller. She discussed various data types in C specifically used in microcontroller. She demonstrated the use of data types for loop. She also explained the ports in microcontroller and with the help of a C program she demonstrated how to toggle bits of a port.

Dr. Baban Kumar, Senior Scientist, CSIO gave a presentation on "The 8051 Microcontroller". He initiated his presentation by differentiating between microprocessor and microcontroller.

Day 2: 3rd May 2016

Dr. Ritula Thakur initiated the session with a presentation on "Programming Languages of Microcontroller". She demonstrated a program to send hex values to ASCII characters and then a program to toggle bits. She explained reading from a port and checking its value.

Dr. Baban Kumar gave a presentation on "Timer/Counter". He discussed the operations and details of timer/counter.

Day 3: 4th May, 2016

The session started with a presentation on "Circuit Simulations Using Proteus Software" by Mr. Tejinder, IISER, Mohali. He discussed how to use KIEL Software. He demonstrated the selecting of new project and then selecting the appropriate microcontroller.

The next presentation was on "Real World Applications of Microcontroller" by Dr. Baban Kumar. He discussed the need of microcontroller. He stated that the microcontroller unit is easily expandable. He discussed the architecture of microcontroller and gave an overview of advanced versions of microcontroller unit: PIC, Silicon Labs, Atmel, Philips, Analog Devices.

Dr. Baban Kumar concluded the session by answering the queries of the participants.

Day 4: 5th May, 2016
