Healthcare Awareness Session on Gastrointestinal Disorder

Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida in association with Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) andDr. Reddy’s Foundation for Health Education organized a Health Awareness Session on Gastrointestinal Disorderunder the banner of DGI SMILE Club on 10th February, 2015. The event was aimed at spreading awareness and educating the staff members about Gastrointestinal disorder.
Dr. Faiz Ahmad, Consultant Gastroenterologist from Holy Faith Hospital, New Delhi conducted the session. The event began with the floral welcome of Dr. Faiz by Prof. S.K. Bagga, Director, DGI, Greater Noida.
Dr. Faiz began his session by providing comprehensive information regarding Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD). He discussed the symptoms of GERD in detail such as bad breath, dry cough, chest pain, sour taste in the mouth and chronic sore throat.
Dr. Faiz pointed out the alarming symptoms like anemia, unintentional weight loss, gastrointestinal bleeding, anorexia and decreased sensation of appetite. He focused on the factors that precipitate GERD symptoms such as weight gain, smoking, lying down immediately after taking food and eating habits that include chocolate, caffeine, peppermint, alcohol, carbonated beverages and tomato based products.
Dr. Faiz discussed long-term complications of GERD that may cause inflammation of the esophagus, bleeding or ulcers, strictures, asthma, chronic cough and pulmonary fibrosis.
Dr. Faiz concluded the presentation with the detailed explanation of GERD therapy in which he suggested various ways to overcome the problem such as elevate head of bed four to six inches, avoid coffee, tea, fatty and fried food, lose weight if overweight, regular exercise and eat more frequent but smaller meals.
The event ended with the memento presentation to Dr. Faiz, Mr. Deepak and Mr. Shubham.
