Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering
Industrial Visit to HVDC Power Grid Corporation of India Limited Dadri, Delhi - NCR
21st February, 2015
Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida organized an Industrial Visit on 21st February, 2015 for the students of Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering to High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) Power Grid Corporation of India Limited, Dadri, Delhi- NCR. The objective of the visit was to procure knowledge about Power Grid network and conversion of High Voltage Direct Current to High Voltage Alternating Current through bi-pole thyristor conversion system. DGI faculty members Mr. Sumit Saroha, Assistant Professor and Mr. Kapil Dev Sharma, Assistant Professor, Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering, DGI, Gr. Noida along with Twenty two students of EEE IV &VI semesters visited the HVDC power station.
The group, under the guidance of the faculty members, reached the power grid at 10:30 AM. They was welcomed by Mr. Sunil Kumar, who conducted an awareness session on power transmission network of India via an Indian Map. He escorted the group to control room and briefed about AC to DC conversion and DC to AC conversion at High Voltage Level via thyristor firning angle control (Gate Control). At power station, he discussed about power quality and importance of supply frequency for the reliability of power system. He also guided the group about the uses of conductors, cooling system of thyristors and use of power transformers for transmission of power.
The faculty members of DGI thanked Mr. Sunil Kumar for his precious time and presented him a memento as a token of respect.
